Solving the 'Invisible CD' Problem
When installing Windows 95 or 98 off the CD some have come across the problem that Windows does not recognise the CD drive when completing the final part of the installation.
This is happens because the drivers are not active until the installation is completely finished. There are two ways to get by this.
Back
First, when you receive the request to insert the CD and it is not present, choose cancel(not finish) and allow the installation to complete. Then when you reboot your CD drive will be recoginised and the install for those extra drivers will complete. I suggest using the second method since it also speeds up your installation. Before installing Windows copy all of the files from the Win95 directory on the CD to a directory on your hard drive(eg. WinInst\). Then run the "Setup.exe" from the directory on the hard drive. It will install faster and will not need the CD for the last part of the install. On top of this, you will also not need to insert the CD, which is often required, when you add new components to your machine. Copyright © 1998 Paul van der Westhuizen
