This page will deal with the Tool Bar. You will find that the Tool Bar does much of the same functions as the Menu Bar to a slightly lesser degree. The Tool Bar shown below is not a complete bar, it is the basic or default bar that you should see when you first load PSP 5. You do have the option to customize the Tool Bar to your liking, Under the File Command on the Menu Bar you will see Preferences, there you'll be able to customize the Tool Bar.
This first group of four Icons you will most likely use regularly.
- New: The first Icon on the Tool Bar allows you to open a New Image.
- Open: The second Icon will open and existing Image.
- Save: The third Icon is used to save the active Image.
- Print: The forth Icon in the first group sends that active Image to your printer.
This second group of Icons are much like the edit functions from the Menu Bar. Although you have more control from the Menu Bar, whereas these Icons are good for quick work.
- Undo: This is used to reverse your last operation, can be used to reverse your work as far back as you want.
- Cut: Used to cutout a selected area or the complete Image.
- Copy: You can select and area of a specific Image and use the Copy Icon to send that selection to the clipboard.
- Paste: This will allow you to Paste the selection on the clipboard as a new Image.
The third group of Icons contain six specific icons. The first two you will probably not use often. Where as three of the next four you will surely use almost every time you work with Paint Shop Pro 5.
- Full Screen: Used to enlarge the screen so the only thing you will be looking at is the active Image.
- Normal Viewing: Used to return the screen to its normal appearance.
- Toggle Tool Palette: If you wish to not have the Tool Palette showing on the screen or work place this will turn it off.
- Toggle Control Palette: This is one I find I have on almost the entire time I am working with PSP5. It allows you to select what function you will be using with the different Tools you select from the Tool Palette.
- Toggle Histogram Window: This is a more advanced function, it will allow you to see the distribution of the RGB and the light in you Image.
- Toggle Layer Palette: When working with Layers you will want this palette visible.
This final spot on the Tool Bar has only one Icon.
- Help: If you are having a problem this is your answer. This Icon will open up the Help menu.
