That Sherwood ever made a unit like the S-6000 was news to me untill quite recently (Dec. '99). This is the typical combination unit - a receiver and a turntable built into an integrated unit. What also surprised me was the front design. It didn't look like the pre-jap receivers, but had push-buttons. The reason for this was only clarified when Mike Volle enlightened me on the '01 series of the S-7600 and S-7800 models. Later I found a test of the S-8800 - which also had push-buttons. So this unit was manufactured just before the first japanese-made receivers were introduced at the end of the sixties/beginning of seventies. As units like this go, it is very powerful, approx. 2x40 "real" watts. Also very flexible with provisions for 2 sets of speakers. There is a headphone and a tape out jack at the front. To the left a FM hush control. This particular unit came without the turntable that originally was a Garrard AT-6. A regular record changer. At the back side can be seen the connectors, it even had DIN connectors for record/playback. A beautiful walnut cabinet rounds off the impression of a better-than average "music center". |
