Above: The ultimate Sherwood tube receiver
- the S-8000 mk IV. FM only - the S-7700 series had AM as well.
This version was brought out in '65 and very little was changed
at the front panel from the introduction in the beginning of
the sixties. The mk IV had the distinctly green-colored type
designator label.
When these models were introduced they were the quintessence
of modern, elegant design and made a pattern for Sherwood for
years to come. This flexibility was maintained through the seventies,
at the costlier models, anyway.
Left: Looking from above one gets an impression
of plenty of space, but only by increasing the depth of the unit
quite a bit, compared to the tuners. Copper-layered chassis.

Transformers and power supply are clustered well together.
At the rear left can be seen the stereo decoder, the various
preamp tubes in the front. The tuning section to the right front.
As on their integrated amps the low profile was achieved by mounting
the power tubes low on the chassis, as well as slanting them
backwards.

Above: The connector panel is rather crowded
with too little space between the sockets. Like most contemporary
units the speaker connector screws also are rather flimsy.
The Sherwood receivers had the same magnificent tuners as
their specialized tuner units. Amplifier yielded 2x36 watts full-range,
8-16 ohms. Contrary to some of the integrateed amps, the receivers
did not have the hum balance adjustment - pity!
