This is just a random story I had to write about...it actually happened to my dad's brother!
In a northern valley, where Deer Park gets its spring water, there is a small town founded by John. In Johnstown, there lived a large family with eight sons and one daughter. One of the sons was named Uncle Frank. He always liked to explore (once he got his big round belly stuck in a sewer). When he came home from his first day of high school, he asked his mother if he could go to his friend’s house. She said, “Ok, but be home before dinner.” “Thanks, ma’” said Frank.
So he went to his friend’s house and they decided to go hiking in the woods. Jeff, his friend, brought some matches, and because it was getting cold, he asked to start a fire. Frank had never made a fire before, because he was only 14, and it was probably illegal too. So Jeff said, “It’s not like we’re going to burn the whole hillside down!” Frank agreed. Then they built a fire and from the radiant beams of light, they got nice and warm. They had not put rocks around it to keep the flame from escaping, and the ground was very dry because it did not snow or rain for a long time. So the fire caught onto the ground. Then, it caught onto nearby trees, so they got scared. They took their bottles of Deer Park spring water, and dumped them on the ground. The cool water was not enough to put it out. They even tried to stomp it out but it was too intense. So they left their bottles to burn in the inferno and ran away.
Frank, as smart as he was, said that if they went straight home, they would be seen coming from the forest, and would be accused of starting the fire. He figured that if they went around his neighborhood to the city, they would not be suspected.
So they went through the woods to the city and bought some more bottles of Deer Park spring water. They drank up and headed home. When they got there, Frank’s mother was outside looking at the hillside where much smoke was starting to rise up. Then a Deer Park tanker with a roaring siren on zoomed down the street. For it was normal to have Deer Park sponsor the fire-fighting squad. Frank asked, “What happened?”
She replied, “There’s a fire on the hillside. Do you know how it got started?”
He said, “It was probably spontaneous combustion.”
His friend said, “Yeah, that’s been happening a lot lately.”
She said, “Well that could be it, but I’ll bet some youngsters were hiking up those hills and made a fire that got out of control. Do you know of anyone that’s been up there recently?"
They answered together, "No, ma’am."
Frank continued, “We were just in town, we didn’t see anything conspicuous.”
She said, “Well then go on inside and wash up for dinner.”
Frank said, “Ok. See ya’ later, Jeff."
“Bye, Frank,” said Jeff, and he went home.
The Deer Park truck was not enough to put the fire out, so they sent in a helicopter with a water cannon. Soon everything was back to normal but Frank has always been so proud of himself that he could get away with such a crime. Only he and Jeff know what really happened that day, but Deer Park has not stopped looking in to it.
