Inc. AOLiveMC9: Welcome Alicia Silverstone! ASilverstn: Hello. I am so excited to be talking to you guys. Thank you for being here. AOLiveMC9: Our first question comes from TINYTOAD: Question: Ms. Silverstone, I think it's greathow you use your influence to promote animal rights. I wish you luck with setting up an animal foundation and if there is any way I can help, I'd like to very much. How can I help? Kevin The Vegetarian Kenjar ASilverstn: This pleases me to no end. You can contact either PETA in New York or Last Chance For Animals in L.A. Or the Amanda Foundation in Beverly Hills and you can either send donations or ask how you can volunteer your services and most importantly, if you are in school, you can create like a group, amongst your peers that stands out and helps the animals. Encourage people to spay and neuter their pets and encourage people to boycott pet stores that sell pets and breeders because there are so many millions of beautiful dogs and cats being murdered in the pound every year. It is absurd. All my animals are rescued and they are the most wonderful animals. It is better to save a life than to encourage pet stores or breeders by giving them your financial support. It is encouraging them to keep breeding animals that will later become murdered in the pound. PETA's phone number is 757/622-7382. Thank you so much for asking me about this. AOLiveMC9: From Jim007bon: Question: You told Dave that you wrote some of the dialogue for "Excess Baggage." Do you have screenwriting aspirations, or are you happy just acting and producing? ASilverstn: I am happy doing anything that challenges me at any given moment and in this particular case, it was an absolute necessity to write and it was a blast doing it and I had the best partner in the world in Benicio Del Toro and we had so much fun improvising and writing and creating our story. AOLiveMC9: From Pro111681: Question: Will you be doing Batgirl again if they ask you to? ASilverstn: I don't know, I will have to assess it at the time. AOLiveMC9: From Jim007bon: Question: Who are some of the actors and actresses you watch for inspiration? ASilverstn: Benicio Del Toro, Judy Davis, Amanda Plummer, so many I just can't think of any of them right now, also, Laura Dern. And Steve Bucemi. AOLiveMC9: DVMAZZ asks: Question: How old were you when you did your first movie? Did Aerosmith come looking for you? ASilverstn: I was 15 when I started the Crush and I was not contacted through Aerosmith directly and I don't think I have ever spoken to them, well, actually, I went to their concert once. I had a wonderful relationship with the Director and we had a blast working together. He is so talented and fun and we have remained really good friends. The funny part of it is that I didn't know who Aerosmith was when Marty asked me to do the video. AOLiveMC9: Xxgen13X asks: Question: Alicia what was it like to be in that superhero costume was it heavy or was it comfortable? ASilverstn: It was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever been in besides the itchy clothes my mom put me in as a kid, it was definitely worse than that. AOLiveMC9: ANIMORPH9 asks: Question: What's your version of a "Prince Charming"? ASilverstn: Prince Charming is very nice and very honest and very confident in who he is and funny and knows how to have a kick-ass fun time. Is willing to melt away so that nothing else exists in the world except himself and his princess and loves food and cats and every life form except human beings which is not necessary. AOLiveMC9: CRzYbLoNd asks: Question: why do you say you are a vegetarian when I read in premiere magazine that you eat meat when you go out?? AOLiveMC9: From CheriHorwi: Question: what character that u have played is the most like your personality or are none of them like it? BTW I loved the movie Clueless AOLiveMC9: IwuvAlici asks: Question: Alicia, I really adore you. I think that you are a very beautiful person. Not just outside, but inside to. I love what you are doing to help save our animals. That is great! I was wondering what your favorite type of animal was? ASilverstn: I guess I don't really have a favorite type of animal but I relate most to dogs just because I have grown up around them. They are the most obviously suffering because you see them in the streets and getting run over, etc. I love all animals. I don't have any real favorite. I am just connected to dogs for some reason I guess. I love horses and wild animals a lot too. AOLiveMC9: From Ridgeytime: Question: How long did it take to make Excess Baggage and can you tell us a bit about it? ASilverstn: I started working on the movie about two years ago and the actual filming process took the normal 10 week shoot. It is a really romantic, funny, charming adventure and Benecio Del Toro is so wonderful in it. He is so sexy and funny and Christopher Walken is wonderful and he plays a kind of a good guys this time. Harry Connick Jr. and Nick Turturo and Michael Bowen, he was in True Crime with me as a bad guy and so we cast him in this movie too. It is about a young girl who is trying to find love and an identity and she is sort of looking in all the wrong places. She thinks she needs to find it from her father but she finds that she needs to look inside herself and find strength inside herself because no one can give you love better than you. AOLiveMC9: From Raymilk3: Question: Were those really backflips you did in Batman and Robin or was it stunts.....did you have fun doing the movie Excess Baggage...Love Rachael ASilverstn: I do not flip but I certainly give a mean kick and punch and bite. Excess Baggage was a blast and I hope you really enjoy it. AOLiveMC9: Jim007bon asks: Question: Hello gorgeous. I know you love theater--what theatrical role would you most like to play--and why? ASilverstn: Holy Moly, I just saw the most amazing play I have ever seen in my entire life but that is not saying much only because I haven't seen that many plays but it is incredible. It is called A Doll's House. I saw it in New York. It was the most moving story and I only wish I could one day do a performance as astounding as hers was. AOLiveMC9: From Ripted: Question: Did you find it hard to be an emancipated minor after a couple of years? Or were you able to keep yourself focused on the future of your career? ASilverstn: Emancipation never really affected me in any way. It just turned me into a workhouse but I guess I would have done that anyway so basically, it didn't have any affect on me. I just didn't go to school so it allowed me to do more work and I have learned so much through the work that I am doing and when I am ready to take certain classes on specific subjects, I will because I love school. AOLiveMC9: JinnSulta asks: Question: Do you find that being famous limits the time you have for increasing your intellect? ASilverstn: That is a very bizarre question. I am sure in some cases it does but in my case I don't pay attention to being famous, I pay attention to what I learn. AOLiveMC9:Krissy760 would like to know: Question: Alicia, What was the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you? ASilverstn: I never really understood the definition of embarrassing. I have never really had a grasp of it but maybe when I peed my pants in ballet class when I was 6 years old. I was doing a solo and I was wearing a pink tutu that I was very proud of and I had pee running down my leg and I guess I was pretty embarrassed. AOLiveMC9: From WMike33: Question: Do you ever watch the Clueless series on television? ASilverstn: No, I saw it one time but that was it because Amy sent me the tape and I thought the girl was really sweet and really cute. AOLiveMC9: From Tinktink: Question: If you weren't acting, what other career might you pick? ASilverstn: I believe that that is a very difficult but smart question. I think that a person can be creative in any job that they choose. It doesn't matter if you work in a bank or a grocery store or a business of any sort as long as you keep pushing your mind and your heart in the right direction, you can be creative. I could probably do anything and would be interested in most anything but some of the things I fantasize about is being a school teacher for little kids or being involved in politics, if there was any way that anyone could actually do something positive but because that is so unlikely, I am not that interested. Student government was always fun, you could always get positive things done but I don't know about the real world. Definitely something with animals but I am pretty happy doing this too because I get to cover a lot of ground. I loved working in a bakery when I was 13 and I wouldn't mind going back. AOLiveMC9: From Albert7888: Question: How much of your free time is devoted to your animal rights activism? ASilverstn: I deal with an animal issue probably every single day. Whether it is going to an event or actually working on placing animals directly or helping people save animals from the pound or encouraging people and educating people as much as I can, I pretty much work on it every single day. AOLiveMC9: From Harvet713: Question: What is the best and worst thing about being rich and famous? ASilverstn: The best thing about being, I guess, wealthy, I don't like the word rich, but wealthy, is that I can eat whatever I want and I can treat people to things that they like. I like being generous to people. It is always fun being able to spend money on friends or whatever, it is nice. The down side is that everyone wants it and people will do anything to get it. Being famous, I get to talk about animals and people listen and that is nice. AOLiveMC9: CheezyJos asks: Question: What is your favorite vegetarian meal? After I learned how you feel about animal rights I did some research on the subject and I have just recently decided to become a vegetarian. You have changed my life, thank you so much. That is truly wonderful. There are a million things that I love to eat. Some of my favorites are corn on the cob, yams with lots of spike, it is a spice, it is a really good spice and pepper and salt and a little olive oil. CousCous salad with cabbage that my friend Joanna makes and unfortunately that is all I know that is in it but it is delicious. Soy Milk is pretty darn yummy and artichokes. That would cover it. And also, soy bacon. They make soy bacon strips that are so yummy that my mouth is watering just talking about it. AOLiveMC9: Soy Milk, interesting - can you briefly describe the flavor for those of us who never had any? ASilverstn: Well, it is richer than milk. It is creamy and you can get it either plain or vanilla and I haven't decided which I like best yet. You can also get Rice Dream which is similar to soy milk. You got to try it and if you are thinking along these lines it is also important to make sure that your toothpaste, shampoos makeup and all that stuff are not tested on animals because it is terrible that they test on animals and companies like Proctor and Gamble are terrible. The do things like Crest and Johnson and Johnson and they are terrible. A good company that converted a year ago is Gillette and Sebastian and Paul Mitchell. There is a great toothpaste called Cool Mint and it is natural and you can find it in a natural food store and it tastes good too because some of them taste really gnarly but this one tastes good. If you want more info on that you can call PETA and they will send you a consumer's guide to tell you all the good products. It is 757/622-7382. AOLiveMC9: Gnarly toothpaste, lol, that sounds interesting also. ASilverstn: YAEL100 - I am so thankful that you are doing this. AOLiveMC9: BoBBeRHea asks: Question: Ms. Silverstone, hello, I was just wondering if you could tell me what you middle name is. I've always wondered, but could never find it out. oh, and I loved clueless. ASilverstn: Thank you so much. You will be wondering forever and I will too because I don't have one My mother hates middle and I don't know why because she uses hers but she didn't give one to me or my brother but I am open to all nicknames. AOLiveMC9: FourFlips asks: Question: In a matter of a few years, you've been able to work with some of Hollywood's top talent. Any favorites among the bunch? ASilverstn: Benecio Del Toro by far is the most talented and most interesting and most exciting and sexiest as well and that never hurts anybody. AOLiveMC9: From CR498999: Question: Is there a possibility for a Clueless sequel? ASilverstn: It is very unlikely but it would be really fun. AOLiveMC9: From Psyco155: Question: what is your favorite part of your new movie I have a few favorite scenes, one is a love scene because it is very pure and honest and easy to relate to and Benecio and myself, in one night, tape recorded ourselves improvising the scene, making it up as we went along, and created this scene and wrote it all down and edited it until it was a scene and it works really great so I am very proud of that scene. Also, the last scene of the movie, just because it is really funny that we made it up on the spot, we decided to throw away the scene and make it up on the spot. That was fun. Also, there was a really funny scene with Christopher Walken, Nick Turturo and Benecio and it is a funny scene in the car. There are so many, it is hard to choose. From VrginMerr: Question: *VrginMerr: Hello Alicia. I admire your work.... Do you ever feel you were cheated out of a normal teenaged life? ASilverstn: Absolutely and I am damn proud. I am just kidding. I am not so sure. I don't know, what is normal? I am as confused as probably everybody else. AOLiveMC9: From DNFinMa: Question: *DNFinMa: How do you handle all of the tabloids? It must be tough. ASilverstn: I don't pay attention to them because I know they are ridiculous. It is like being in high school where if you pay attention to everybody you can die because everyone has an opinion. I just pay attention to myself. That is the theme of my film, Excess Baggage because Emily is looking for outward approval, approval from her father and she learns that she can't get it and it is not important, what is important is that she approves of herself and that is what I am learning every day. I am hungry, I'm sick at my stomach and I have a headache, what do you suggest? AOLiveMC9: From Number9hr: Question: You seem to like improvising, does it ever make the director crazy? ASilverstn: Of course, if you have a bad director. If you have a good director, then no. AOLiveMC9: From Jim007bon: Question: I first noticed you when you perfectly epitomized the "dreamgirl" in "The Wonder Years. Do you mind being a sex symbol/dreamgirl to millions? ASilverstn: It doesn't bother me by any means but I don't really understand it so I just sort of ignore it but I appreciate the compliment. AOLiveMC9: JEFFON asks: Question: I think you are beautiful and am a BIG fan.. I am also a fan of Howard Stern. So I'd like to know if we will ever hear you on the Howard Stern Show? AOLiveMC9: JediGirl0 asks: Question: Do you like kitties? I have 3. Chablis is 17, Calvin is 2, and hobbes is 6 months ASilverstn: I love kitties, I grew up with a few kitties, one of them used to sleep on my head and not on my neck because she thought I was her mother but then I found out I was really allergic and then my cat committed suicide the next day and it was devastating> If your six month old kitten is ready, I hope it is spayed and I hope you got them from the pound and if you get any other cats, I hope you get them from the pound. AOLiveMC9: Ajnm asks: Question: What influenced you to become so actively involved in such causes as PETA? ASilverstn: Ajnm, I honestly can't imagine anyone not caring about animals. It disgusts me how terribly they are treated. Anyone who is in touch with themselves or the universe in any way must feel the connection to animals. It is absurd not to and that is why I love the people at PETA, they understand that. AOLiveMC9: From Wolf859: Question: I like acting and all but I'm trying to figure out how to get noticed. How did you get noticed for the first time? ASilverstn: If you love acting, that should be the most important thing, to love what you are doing and the process and not think about the result as much as the process but if you want someone to help you in finding great classes and maybe work, you can call a woman named Judy O'Neal and she is located at the Creative Center and her phone number is an 818 number. She is my old manager and the Creative Center is in Culver City in Los Angeles, just call information. AOLiveMC9: We have time for one more audience question and it is sent by Oh McFly: Question: do you have time for your friends and hang out and be and act your age I don't really know what acting like my age is but I certainly have a wonderful, wonderful time with my friends and we all work together as well, so we kind of work and play and work and play and it is really great. We all respect each other and love each other and believe me, we "party down" on Tylenol. AOLiveMC9: Thank you so much for being here Alicia Silverstone and good luck with Excess Baggage! ASilverstn: I appreciate so much everyone writing into AOL. I am so excited for you all to see the movie. It opens tomorrow and I hope you enjoy it. I hope you walk away feeling happy and thank you so much for your interest in my life and my interest in animals. It means so much to me. I can't even explain how much it means to me and I hope you all have a blast and have wonderful new school years if you are in school. And, thank you. AOLiveMC9: Thanks again for being with us. ASilverstn: Thank you. AOLiveMC9: Good night audience! Full
