Who am I? Born in Milan, OHO USA in 1847 the youngest of four children. I was expelled after three months of formal schooling, by a headmaster who must go down in history as having the least student assessment skills in the history of education, for being "retarded". I was 7 years and 3 months old at the time.
When 12 years old I began selling newspapers on the grand Trunk Railway, devoting my spare time mainly to experimentation, with printing presses and electrical and mechanical apparatus in my freight car laboratory. For saving the life of a station official's child, I was rewarded by being taught telegraphy, which kindled my interest in electronics. This lead to my first important invention, a telegraphic repeating instrument the "Quadruplex telegraph" that enabled messages to be transmitted automatically over a second line without the presence of an operator.
Over the next few years I managed to accumulate some $40,000, from the sale of inventions, and with this money I established my own laboratory in 1876.  The invention for which I'm best known is the phonograph. All the clues are there! Check your answer on the last page.

Traveling club members

Alan Bengtsson (VK3AB) has announced to move up north again for the winter months. His final destination will be Karumba Qld, but on the way up or down there will be a chance to catch him on the 15 mtr travelers net (21.185 MHz) every day  11.30 local time.

Brian (VK3VBJ) will be in the States for a month. Although no details of his itinerary are known at this stage, I have asked him to try to get trough to us via e-mail. He may even bring back a new radio!
