Online Sports Simulation Games

Have you ever had the feeling that the internet, which was suppose to be a unlimited source of information and entertainment, had nothing more to offer you? After surfing and chatting for hours and hours, have you ever had the feeling that you had enough? After all the millions of web pages you've browsed digging information about your favorite teen popstars, heavy metal bands and ultra-violent computer games, do you feel you've had enough already ? Then it is time for you to get into sports! SPORTS ??!! Yes Online Simulation Sport Games!

You undoubtedly have already heard about online sport games. Commonly referred to as Fantasy Sport Games, these games differ much from your typical PC Sport Games ( NBA LIVE, FIFA). First of all, fantasy simulation games don't have the incredible graphics and realistic sound that we are all used to see and hear in our PC and console ( Playstation, duh? ) based games. In fact, they rarely offer visual feedback to the player. What!? How do you play a game when you can't see it? Electronic Knockouts (www.boxinggame.com ) is one of the few fantasy boxing games that can be played in the net. Based on a text simulator EKO offers no visual feedback but instead is displays the results of the game in text and sent via email. Here you manage a number of boxers ( 2 for the trial period, it is not free ). After registering you will then be allowed to create fighters of varying weight classes from Straw weight to Heavyweight. You can either give the your fighter his own statistics (strength, speed and agility to name a few ) or have the computer randomly generate it for you. You will be given 53 ability points to distribute among your fighter's statistics, namely strength, speed, agility, toughness and height. Your fighter's abilities will greatly determine the strategy you will want to use with your fighter.

Creating a strategy for the fighter is perhaps the most unique thing about this game. You can choose to fight in a number of different styles, much like in real life. Going to the body and throwing powerful uppercuts or staying outside and popping your opponent's head with your speedy jabs are only some of the many strategies you can use in the game. Of course, you will want a strategy that is appropriate for a given fighter, we wouldn't want to see a Muhammad Ali to fight like an ear-biting-Mike Tyson, right? After creating your strategy your created fighter will then be "pitted" against a fighter created by another human being. The strategies of both fighters are then calculated on a round per round basis. Each fighter will start with a number a predefined number of endurance points, determined by the fighter's toughness. The one the best strategy for a fighter wins. You can either try to knock-out an opponent or choose a less bloody fight and try to win by decision. Each round is calculated using the 10-point must system . The fighter with most points win, or in case of a knock out , the one left standing. Playing this game requires the player to carefully analyze many factors, including strategies to be used each round and the opponent's fighting style. Unlike most of our favorite games which requires us to kill everything is sight, the complexity of this game will require you to use your brain ( though pressing a trigger and blowing off a monster's head is a lot more fun ). As your fighter gets more wins he will gain bonus ability points. Fights are scheduled once each week and results will be sent.

Fortunately, for some who find boxing too bloody, a few other sport games are available. EPSN, known for its sports shows on TV, also has some sports simulation games in the net. ESPN describes these games as a way for individuals to compete against each other to see who has the best managing skills in any given sport. Unlike EKO, ESPN's Fantasy Baseball requires you to make a team composed of real people in the league. As "team owners", these individuals draft real-life, professional players to be members of their respective teams. The statistics these players generate in their real games are collected, and fantasy points are awarded based on these numbers -- the better a player performs, the more fantasy points he accumulates for his owner's team. In fantasy baseball, these points determine a winner in either rotisserie or weekly Head-to-Head match-up of two of the league's teams. The team that accumulates the most points or victories over the course of the season -- and in the case of Head-to-Head, prevails in the post season -- is declared the League Winner.

This is the closest you will ever get to become president, franchise owner and team manager of a baseball team,. All decisions are yours to make. Each team owner is supplied with all of the tools -- multiple draft methods, live box scores, unlimited waivers and trades, free agency, an all-empowering commissioner, chat rooms, league bulletin boards, sortable stats for all players, etc. -- everything needed to build a team in the best manner possible. Statistical reports, expert analysis, and up-to-date feature articles from ESPN.com are readily available to keep owners informed. To win, an owner has to be crafty, as each team competes directly with nine other owners who are equally determined to come out on top. Owners can choose who they compete against and are free to join a league at their own level of competition.

Many others sports games are available in the net, from basketball to wrestling, numerous sites in the net offers these games for free or for a minimal cost. All the statistics and strategies will surely bring out the strategy freak that is within us. These games may require a little thinking and patience, but they sure will entertain most of you out there who are fed up with all the redundant celebrity sites, coņotic channels and junk mails you receive each day.
