Helpful Hints for PC Buying
- Reason for purchasing a computer system
- Checking the budget and timing
- Checking the hardware and the warranty of the product
- Testing the system
There are certain systematic steps in purchasing a computer system, blah, blah, blah. Does it really buy your concern when something weird an advice started as such? Well here we made a minor change, truth. There is always a hidden agenda behind advertisements that is keeping truth from hopping around. Hundreds of persons lay amazed at such how a timid, slow poke machine cost them hundreds of dollars when all the manufacturer could say is it's OK over and over again as if he's a computer himself. Then at last another idea came to his mind with the silliest grin you'd ever saw your whole life, "We offer upgrades". You bought the idea for another set of dollars then you pass another store worth half the price
of your comp, these men walk out of the store grumbling and eyebrows crossed. Well what do we expect of persons who are new to these machines and thought their genes are so identical that there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Up to now faster, better PC's are coming out to render your computer obsolete which you bought in the last complete revolution of earth. Well why bother? you got this thing that works or better yet, you work, he walks. Simple, you bought it not because you want it, but you need it. Now you knew nothing (admit it or stop reading this) and it's some kind of love at first sight It was not lovely at all when the right one comes along.
After these intro you looked very interested at the cool advice. "What do I want?" ask yourself this question in the lowest tone possible when someone is around. Did you say money? no, what do you want and need in a comp, that is for work, play or a decoration of some kind. If it is for work, see what your job requires, editing pictures and artwork need a nice video card, a SVGA monitor and a processor that is completely compatible with the software you ought to use, ex. Adobe PhotoShop or Photodeluxe works great with Pentium machines 100mhz or higher. If you are a compositor or need a whooshing sound on a PowerPoint presentation,
don't go imitating the sound, be sure you have a sound card. ESS sound cards are tested with good results under a fine set of speakers. The highest priced need not be the best. OPTI soundcards have a relatively high price but the quality is not impressive. At play you simply need the BEST. You heard it right, you wont enjoy a three dimensional image running in simple video cards, at times an extra accelerator is required to have a smooth flow of graphics which is not practical at work. Multimedia PC's under MMX technology make a good combo. Well if you like personal computers for decoration better draw it on paper and ink.
Next check your budget, it is extremely important to make the best of your money, no matter how drowning they are. A boastful nuthead would bring the most expensive Mackintosh system when all he wants is to play a game that would only run in a windows95 environment. Actually most programs are made to run under Windows and they don't bother to make versions for Mc. Another factor is timing, it is inevitable when your budget is at stake. Hardware, especially computer processors vary in prices every week of the month. Last January 27, Pentium200MMX processor cost 8,000 pesos on a favorite shop, now it is marked 4,200 pesos! Many have mourned over a computer that dramatically
drops its price a day after it was purchased. Relatively here's the tip: It was observed that during the months of November and December, prices seem to drop. Next, when the loved processor is the current craze go on a little wait, the reward would be truly surprising.
You are about to buy the system, hands shivering to touch the exotic shape of the mouse. Go and indulge yourself, ask if you could run the system before purchasing it. We mean run, not turning it on and when the monitor just starts to light up they shut it down, suffering on some kind of phobia on electric bills.
Let the audio play, most of the time it is left unchecked. If possible let your software run, make the most of it, most people pays every minute just to touch a computer, your lucky it's free. When your serviceman begins to show uneasiness, stop and let him turn it off (this would cool him down). Ask about the conditions and warranty of the product, if it were less than a year you could leave him red in anger or jump into a dark pit of luck. Asked, I'd prefer the former.
Your computer might be placed somewhere in the house where everybody could never ignore it. Truly you must be proud though months after, it will be called obsolete.
You've got the BEST computer possible in a limited budget and time. You bought it this time because you want it, it won your best efforts and being a part of those efforts is such feeling that no time could ever yellow.
