Jean Grey was Charles Xavier's first student as his School for Gifted Youngsters, where she learned to control her mutant gift of telekinesis. Phoenix' ability to control objects with her mind makes her a very powerful ally to Xavier's dream of mutant peace. Charles also believes that with proper training, Jean could learn to develop her powers into an ability to read other's minds an skill called telepathy.
