paris hangover - May 9th 2009
My paintings this evening are about many things, however, they are mostly about my ever-evolving heart.
Over the last several years I have been learning to put away things of the past that were no longer furthering this evolution: past sorrow, past pain, past loss and even past joy. The courage to put away the past, wherever it may go, finally came to me in Paris, France last September... this courage lingered, resulting in 'paris hangover'.
For three years I was a nanny for my nephew, Will. As many of us discover, a child can be a marvelous teacher. And he was. Will brought to me, and my art, the purest sense of it all. And, like Paris, gave me the courage to pursue, fight for and cherish those things that have always been important to me. His newness to this world reminded me of how fragile we once were and indeed, still are. I must fight for this earth and its trees and animals, in however small a way. I must be brave. For Will. For me. For the planet.
And so, being inspired, the many states of my heart began to emerge: hiding, hive-ing, melting, breaking, bleeding, opening, existing... sometimes as a rock, sometimes as a tree, and sometimes in its perpetual fragile state...
In this thing that we call our life... what does the heart need?
Thank you so much to everyone that came to the 'paris hangover' show and made this such a fabulous evening! It meant so much to me to have each of you there.
