Here it is! The long awaited version 1.04 of Mega Racers, the most
popular racing game for the TI-85!
Today, April 9th, 1997, I finnished putting on a fit last
touches (and fixed an annoying bug) and loaded the game up to the
server, updating the page so you can play the new game. So whatz in the
newest version? Well, I'll cover that below. From 7:50 to 8:10 I plan on
being on IRC so if anybody wants to stop by and talk about the game
please do (#megarace). Ok, you're probably wondering what took me so
long. Too much school work, that's what. Not to say I don't have work to
do tonight, I do, I even have a quiz tomorrow, but I promised I'd get
this version out TONIGHT and I deliver! Expect newer versions this
summer when I'll have much more time to program (and energy to do it!).
Ok, the game is pretty much the same, but there are quite a few
"goodies" I've added, enjoy! 8-)

#####################################################################

WHAT IS NEW:

-All new count-down timer (harder and completely remade)

-All new race timer

-Five lap races with nice screen afterward that'll tell you your race
 time (if you finnish)

-Actual checkpoints that you can see, kinda nice don't you think?

-Power meter, your power goes down every time you crash.

-Exploding scene, don't run out of power, or else....

-Harder! Much much harder. It really is.

-1 Billion and counting bugs found and fixed. Well, that's a bit of an
exageration, but I did find and fix about 25-30 MAJOR bugs that had
little or no affect in version 1.01 but HAD to be fixed for version 1.04
and will help progress of new versions go 200% FASTER!

-Intro scene. A number of people I know thought I should put my name on
it. I agreeded.

-Changed the menu system, now you always return to it. Note: this is
originally how the program was supposed to behave.

-Changed the controls:
          Up/2nd = Accelerate
        Down/Alpha = Brake

-You can now exit while you're burning.

-Completely changed burning sequence (code-wise, major improvement).

#####################################################################

Ok, that's about all I can remember right now. Look for linkplay and
computer opponents in version 2.01 and 3.01. Those will hopefully come
this summer. Note: I also plan on re-starting a baseball game for
zshell, yes, graphical, what do you think?
Now go and try out the game. Stop by IRC to give me praise (hehe),
vote for Mega Racers version 1.04 on Andreas Ess's homepage
(http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Pines/5906) so it gets the
recognition it deserves, and most of all, sned me your e-mail with your
praise. Below is a list of thanx (people who helped out in the project)
and a list of ideas I'm considering for the games future (a very short
list, I have tons of other ideas as well not listed)

Thanx:

First I'd like to thanx Andreas Ess, he has been the MOST HELPFUL
PERSON TO ME WITH ZSHELL AND ASM.
Second I'd like to thanx Mangus for the help he gave me when I first
started when programming in assembler.
Last, but not least, I'd like to thank ALL the beta testers, your
comments have been very helpful. Unfortunately I don't have a list of
your actual names, however, I do have a list of your e-mail addresses,
so I'll list them here. I suggest anybody else you needs beta testing to
contact any of these people.

Things in future:

-Link Play (human vs human over link cord!)
-Computer opponents
-Stuff on road, like oil slicks and parked cars
-Power-ups
-Warps
-Many more levles
-Best times initial entry
-Multiple cars and better car images (was supposed to be in this version but my
seems to have his laptop with him right now and the sprites (new ones) are on that
 machine. :( Oh well.)
