You seem to have been taught something like Benjamin twos.
I think we should do it properly.

2C           >= 6 card strong suit and 8-9 playing tricks.
                     In outside suits A or KQ  =  1 trick and  K   =  1/2 trick
               This is forcing and your next bid shows your suit.
               The negative response is 2D and shows 0-7 high card points

2D          21+ high card points and forcing to game unless partner gives the
                       negative response of 2H which shows 0-7 points
                       If opener rebids a suit it must be >= 5 cards.

2H and 2S  show a strongish 6 card suit (H or S) and 6-10 high card points.
                        Do NOT lie about the points. With 11 bid 1H or 1S.
                 Responses with a fit (ie two of the suit) (count distribution)
                         4HS    >= 16
                         3HS    8-13    which is a SIGN OFF
                         2NT     14-15  which is an enquiry
                                              3HS shows 6-8-
                                              3 another suit shows 8+10 and shows a high card.
                          3NT shows a solid suit - AKQxxxx or better.

These are all assuming the hand is not balanced.

cheers.
