Description:

Multiline chat software for DOS or OS/2.

Features:

  • Unlimited nodes
  • Unlimited chatroom channels
  • Personal channels
  • Private one-on-one chat
  • Actions
  • Personal Actions
  • Directed messages
  • Whispered messages
  • Colour codes
  • Configurable User Biographies
  • Six-level Profanity Censor
  • Support for other languages
  • Moderator and Sysop commands
  • Online Help system
  • Maximus/2 3.x Pipe Support
  • ANSI/TTY
  • Completely Configurable (On my system, I set up the chatroom to look EXACTLY like the old software.)

Notes:

  • If you use Maximus/2 3.x pipe support, you will get a caller in the chatroom listed twice to callers in the main menu. This is a flaw in the OS/2 pipe system, as used by Maximus.
  • To fix this, you can:

    1) Disable Pipe support in BOTH TOPChat and Maximus, and switch to IPC. (Not tested)

    or

    2) Use a custom "Who Is On" listing utility. (I wrote my own in MEX.)

You can keep pipes on in Maximus, and keep them off in TOPChat, but then your callers lose the ability to page into/out of the chatroom (as well as see logon/off messages).
