Send in your questions, comments, or suggestions.  I will post them accordingly.

Everything stated in these responses are speckled with my own personal opinions.  My word is NOT law.

Q.  I want to be a witch, can you help teach me?

A.  I think that first thing everyone should ask themselves is why...why do they want to practice?  If it's because you think it's cool, that could sooooo be  the wrong reason, and when you ask a question like that of me I have to question your maturity.  Therefore I would tell you to return your copy of the 'Craft' to the video store and look inwards.  And if you still persist, I would then let you know there is a lot of studying, reading and hard time-consuming work ahead.  Because, that's what it takes.

It's ok that you don't fit into your family's religion and that you think Paganism might be for you.  There are a lot of young people out there that practice for the right reasons.  I was one of them.  It's religion, it is going to involve the same amount of commitment that other religions require.

I would recommend the reading of a couple books (see below) that will give you a taste for Paganism / Witchcraft / Wicca, etc.  Once you are familiar with some of the aspects of this religion / way of life there are a number of things you can do.  You might want to join a coven, seek out a teacher or teach yourself which many people do since it is very difficult to achieve the other options.

Don't let me turn you away.  If you're serious about learning then get to it!  Be aware of false teachers out there.  The internet offers so many resources and not all are accurate.  Just be sure to cover all your bases.

Q.  What is a tradition?

A.  A tradition is the path of religion that you follow.  There are many different 'Traditions', they range from historically based followings such as Druidic, Celtic, and then you have the ones that were created in this past century.  There are soooo many to choose from that it can easily be confusing for anyone.   That is were the research and reading comes into play.  You need to familiarize yourself with the many and take the one that most talks to you.  The one that falls into your moral structure and who you already are.

Q.  What is a Book of Shadows?

A.  A Book of Shadows is a book that holds spells, rituals, and other magickal workings...primarily.  I use mine for much more.  It acts as a journal, to keep track of my experiences in the craft.  Both actual magickal and personal craft trials and tribulations.  You can use it for what ever you want.

Q.  Will you send me some spells?

A.  Will you send me some?  Because I could really use some... I get that question a lot, and my answer is always the same.   NO!

I'm sorry but I don't share my spells...they're like artistic creations to me and very personal.  You'll have to do what I do...write your own.  But should you be a beginner, there are books out there that will give you some pointers on where to start.  Don't let me bias you, there are tons of people out there that use pre-written spells and rituals and that's great.  Do what you feel most comfortable doing.  But my personal experience is that it feels great to use something you've created and spent time on, and then have it work beautifully!

Q.  Is Witchcraft the same as Satanism?

A.  No.  There are no evil deities in Witchcraft or Wicca.  I hate to group Witchcraft and Wicca in the same category when many would disagree that they are two very different religions.  Using the term pagan is too broad of a classification as well but you will find that it is used often.  But as a general rule Wicca, Witchcraft and other goddess based religions do not recognize evil in the way that Judeo-Christian religions do.

Q. Do spells work?

A. Of course they do, though not the way most might think.  You can't make a spell that will have money appearing out of thin air, but you can do one to encourage wealth.  You can't create a spell turning someone into a toad, but you can create one that asks for peace from that person.  Does that make sense?  I know it's vague, but this stuff is complex.  I like to think of spells as a (catholic) prayer.  Ask and you shall receive!

Q. Are the gods real?

A. As real as any other!  Faith.  It all comes down to beliefs and faithIf you think that they're real then what more do you need?  I know that that is a very non-answer to your serious question, but it also happens to be a very difficult question to answer to someone with whom you are not familiar.  I believe in the Gods.  What you choose to believe in and follow has to be a personal choice.

Q. How do I put a spell on someone?

A. You don't!  Did you ever like it when the school bully beat you up?  Have you ever tripped a blind person?  Stolen candy from a baby?  I think and hope that you're getting my drift.  You should never put a spell on someone in a negative way.  Try reading the Wiccan Rede, it's the one rule of thumb for all practitioners.
