MIA

Been a while since I last posted, mostly becuase things have been crazy these past 2 weeks. Hopefully it'll calm down soon, or my parents will forcably take my cars keys away and force me to do nothing but watch movies and sleep. Not that I'll be complaining.

Last week I co-organized a semi-formal dance for my church. I'm never doing that again. Though I had some amazing help (thank you thank you thank you) I took on waaaay too much. And I knew it. But I did it all the same. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's for school or volunteer work, I'm just not capable of only doing the job half-way. The dance was Sunday, and it was beautiful. I hope somebody took pictures of the setup; the theme was camelot, so we had stone towers and an outdoor courtyard and purple and gold everywhere and candles and flowers ... and I got to wear a tiara all night ... it was fun :) But I'm still recovering, all I did yesterday was nap and watch movies.

The funny thing is, I quit my job so that I could relax, and so my parents are (perhaps rightly) concerned that rather than doing so, I'm continuing to run around doing things. I'm trying to be a bum, I really am ... but there's just so much stuff that I think I need to do.

Interesting ...

I heard this a few days ago on Lowell Green, and decided to do a bit of research. It turns out that Jack Layton (the leader of the NDP party) and his spouse were living in subsidized housing (they don't anymore.) This despite the fact that their combined salary exceeded $100,000. Here is the transcript of the provincial legislative assembly where this came to light. (search for 'layton', it's about 2/5 down the page.)

What's pointed out here, is that though they were paying the "market value" for the co-op, which was $900, the actual cost to operate the unit was $1200. So, even with paying the 'market value,' they were still getting a nice 25% discount ... at the expense of taxpayers.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding

But I always thought the premise of "Ladies Nights" was to get the ladies liquored up, so that the guys at the bar had an easier time convincing her to go home with him. (Such as my early years in engineering has taught me ...)

Now, I think that's morally obscene, but I guess I never thought about it in this way.

But hey! Whatever works ...

My new hero!

After going clothes shopping the other day, I can better appreciate the stand this girl has taken. Some of the clothing in certain stores are just plain scary! I mean really!

Religion and Politics

Interesting article

Cause it's fun to mix two volatile substances and see what happens :)
(I know, I know, it's american politics ... and I'd much rather blog about Canadian politics now ...)
