what i wish they'd teach in teacher's college

chalkboard writing 101

No, seriously. Remember those teachers you had whose writing you couldn't make out to save your life? i'm afraid I'll be one of those. I'm taking the chalk holder that I received as a present last year and covering my walls with unit circles. and trig equations. and hoping that the kids will be able to read it come Thursday!

the life that is me

School has been keeping me really busy as of late. I know, I always say that, but I really mean it this time. It's not that the work is hard, just that there's a lot of it. And so to discipline myself to stay focused and work well and ... well ... just make it through the next year, I'm training myself to go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6 ... yes that's 8 hours of sleep. I can't seen to function on any less ... and as obnoxious as it is to always be yawning in class, it's ever so much worse if you're the teacher!

I've been in the classroom for only 3 days now, and I'll be teaching my first lesson this week. Wish me luck! It's graphing trigonometric functions ... yup, the stuff I never really quite got in high school (well, got to the point where I was happy with my level of understanding, which isn't quite the same) So it will be a good time for me to brush up on my math and graphing skills. Man, this feels rusty! How do people ever do this as a second career? (or third, or fourth, etc)
