..... Some of the Famous
Sistlas .....
Narasimha Somayajulu of Jagannathapuram (also known as Kandriga) is perhaps the most renowned and remembered of all the Sistlas, after the Founding Father Vallabha Sistugaru. By virtue of Varna-Asrama Dharma, he took to the fourth Asrama, Sanyas (ascetism). He was a great worshipper of Ganga Devi and had attained such spiritual powers that Ganga Devi submitted to his beck and call. "Gangi, bring me fire!" he would call out and there would be fire!
It is believed that as he would perform penance (Tapas ) on Mugalrajapuram Hills of Vijayawada, his Uttareeya (a piece of cloth worn as upper-garment) would float in the air above his head, like an umbrella, protecting him from the sun.
Umamaheswaram of Manchalla, in the 19th century was the first to revolutionise Telugu poetry. He was the mentor of now well known poet 'Sri-Sri' (Srirangam Srinivasarao - 1904-1983).
Venkata Narasimham (born May 29, 1911) is the most prominent among the present day Sistlas. He served as a Member of the Municipal Council, Guntur, twice - from 1939 - 42 and 1949 - 52. He enrolled as an Advocate in the Madras High Court in 1952 (Andhra was a part of Madras Presidendy till then.) He was elected to Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament) as an Independant Candidate for the term 1952-57.
