"The Dream God's Daughter" (c) Stephanie
Law 1998.
I watched as the crows flew from the west
Dark outlines from the white stars.
Then blackness flooded the night blue sky
As their beating feathers stirred up the wind
I felt the harsh coldness touch my skin
And suddenly everything wasn't black or white
But an ugly shade of grey.
Then everything faded away.
And I was alone again.
They stood outside her house up high
Where in the evenings the sun would set
And the warm lights would slowly pass by
Where you could see the cloud's outlines glow
And all the world seemed perfect to them
And everything seemed to all flow.
He took her hand, and in it he placed
A single rose, early in bloom
And whispered "You're everything to me,
For in your eyes I see the moon
And all the stars, and shining lights
In your lips I see all the smiles
And the laughs, and all other delights
That you have always brought to me
And I know that this is just a single rose
But the petals will open and spread
Just as surely as my love for you
Know that everyday it grows.
And I will always love you...forever."
And as they kissed, under that night sky,
Darkness surrounded, a perfect night.
And watching angels began to sigh.
The hours passed, and the worry grew,
In the corridor she waits alone.
Huddled up, coldness invading.
Finally silence destroyed by the phone.
He won't be coming, he never will
And the tears all came tumbling down
Through pitiful sobs, they continued to spill
And the cars had smashed, passed a red light.
Under crushed metal, he did die.
Darkness surrounded, a terrible night.
And watching angels began to cry.
Out in the open, she knelt by the grave,
Whispered a prayer, as the tears ran down.
A single withered rose, held in her hand,
Kissed the petals, before it touched the ground
And as she got up to leave the last teardrop fell
A little drop of moisture the petals gained
But the dampness soon vanished.
And the dried up rose was all that remained.
Six feet under, was where he lied
Darkness surrounding, but it wasn't night.
And watching angels all passed by.
As a spirit, not solid at all
The morning lights shone on him
By the grave he stood unnoticed
No smile there was, his eyes were dim.
He lowered his head, picked up the rose
A see-through hand, empty in the air
And as he watched her leave
A tear shone out from the lights glare
And he wanted to say "I love you"
And he wanted to say "Don't go"
But instead wiped the tear from his eye
And the darkness went away
And watching angels echoed his last word...
"...goodbye...'
Along came a couple
to a wonderful site,
Upon a wide cliff
To admire the lights.
The wind was rough,
The edge was close.
And this was the part
He regreted the most.
Just a simple push
Just a simple step.
She slipped,
came crashing down.
They tried to hold on
But someone let go
And all that he saw
All that he loved
was gone.
Visions of beauty
Charm and her grace,
She fell into the darkness
Hit the ground hard,
Died in that place.
And what did he tell
To all that knew her?
Just simply:
"The wind was rough,
The edge was close
And then she slipped
I tried to hold on
But then she let go
And she fell...
far down below."
Beneath this sky that has no lights
A blanket of darkness where we lie
Two figures embracing under cool silk
I look into your eyes and there's my light
Soft twinkles in my night.
We laughed and smiled beneath that sky.
Then sleep beckoned, and I closed my eyes.
But then I woke up, and you weren't there.
You never really realise it
but the time you spend with someone is precious
And you should always cherish it
No matter how little it is
Because one day they'll be gone
And you'd wished you'd had made better
Of that time you spent.
I thought this life wasn't worth much
But then I suddenly remembered someone
And everything flooded back to me
What he'd said, things that had happened
And how his words touched me so deep inside
And I felt that someone really loved me
Someone really cared.
And that was all I needed.
Then the lonliness faded
And I started to smile...
