"Midway took on a dangerous undertaking when it resurrected 1983's Spy Hunter, one of the most revered old-school action games, onto the PS2 last fall. Amazingly, unlike a Stephen King cemetery, the rebirth kept the beauty of the original intact. In fact, some would argue that it surpassed the original in intensity and depth.

Midway's smart enough not to ruin a good thing, so it will be making the GameCube port, due in March, close to the blueprint of the original PS2 version. "Spy Hunter was hugely popular on the PlayStation 2 and we expect it will be just as big of a hit on the Xbox and Nintendo GameCube," said Helene Sheeler, Midway vice president of marketing.

Point Of View will be handling the conversion of the original PS2 game done by Paradigm Entertainment.
