What We Are: The Canton of Skeldergate is a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (or SCA for short), an international organization devoted to researching and recreating pre-17th century European history. More detailed information about the SCA can be found in the article “Life in the Current Middle Ages” on the main SCA web page. Where We Are Located: We are located within the Barony of Septentria, which is within the Kingdom of Ealdormere. In real life terms, we are the SCA chapter for York Region and the former North York region of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Generally, we consider our boundaries to be Highway 401 in the south, Highway 427 in the west, Highway 9 in the north and Highway 404 in the east. However, participants from other areas are welcome to attend our meetings and practices at any time. Activities in Skeldergate: No matter what aspect of the Middle Ages you are interested in, chances are you will find someone else at Skeldergate who shares that interest. Skeldergate members participate in a variety of activities, including heavy weapons combat, archery, thrown weapons and a diverse range of the arts and sciences. Combat is a major activity in Skeldergate, particularly heavy weapons fighting, in which Skeldergate has always been very strong. This is due in no small part to the presence of House Hrogn, a fighting-oriented household. There are also several up-and-coming fighters in Skeldergate, as well as a number of gentles working towards authorization. Skeldergate is loaded with gentles who have arts and sciences talent oozing from their pores, so there's always activity going on in the arts and sciences in Skeldergate. Many Skelderfolk are also involved in giving of their time and service to help keep the SCA running and make things fun for others. Anyone can get involved in these activities - your fellow Skelderfolk will be happy to help you out if you don't know where to start. We welcome participants at every skill level from beginner to expert, and both formal and informal work in these areas takes place on an on-going basis. Stop by one of our weekly meetings and practices for more information. |
