Beating around the Bush   (1/22/01)
Bush is going to destroy us all...

Even as I type this, he is planning his fund-cutting strategies to family planning groups (those evil darned pro-choicers!), and is still as determined as ever for "school vouchers." Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of a "private school"?

To top that off, he said he wants to give local school officials more control. Does this mean that Bible Belt schools like mine are going to return to loudspeaker lead prayers? I hope to hell it doesn't...

Bush began the first day of his presidency at a prayer service with Franklin Graham, the son of the Rev. Billy Graham. Bush heard an appeal from F. Graham to "ignite the soul of America." I wonder does this roughly translate to "Let's turn this free country into a theocracy."

Graham also said that America faces "great social, political, and spiritual problems." Spiritual problems? What is he talking about? Perhaps it has something to do with church attendance being at an all-time low, and the landmark decision NOT to make high school football games into church services. But those aren't problems...unless, that is, you're a religious nutcase like the Grahams. Or Bush, for that matter.
More Bush Crap (1/29/01)
Just when you think it's safe to be an infidel...waitaminute, when did you think that?

Bush is now making his "faith-based partnerships" a reality. You know, of course what this means. Taxpayers money is going to religious charity organizations. Damn, it's bad enough they don't pay taxes, now
they're getting paid taxes? What in the world is Bush thinking? Oh, yeah, I forgot, he's a religious fascist...

They claim that money will not be used to promote the religion that represent the charities...gee, why are the charities represented by religion in the first place? To convert people, of course. And obviously Mr. Bush thinks this is hunky-dory.

But dig this little line of Bush's..."A compassionate society is one that recognizes the importance of faith." Isn't that just dandy? Doesn't that just scream "you're a non-compassionate bastard if you don't have a mental crutch?" And what precisely is the "importance of faith"? I'm waiting for that answer, Mr. President...
I'm really getting tired of news on Dubya. But I'm really getting tired of Dubya himself, so I'll spank him a bit more here.

Bush is currently canning several of Clinton's laws. This means snowmobiles will be allowed in Yellowstone now, as well as more seemingly unconnected annoyances. But get this: He's about to change the definition of "Child".

Clinton nationally defined "child" as a fetus after birth, making it easier for pregnant women to be subjected to medical testing. Bush is now changing that.

No word yet on what the new definition will be, but pro-choicers have been quoted as saying his plan is "suspicious".

My theory is he's throwing this in with several other changes to mask his intention...he will keep his promise of making abortion illegal, and will use the new definition of child as his means. Clever, Mr. President, but not to clever for me to see through it.

Oh, well. You wanted him, America, you can put up with the bastard.
Bush *again*... (4/8/01)
Uh Oh (5/18/01)
Hold on to your britches, boys and girls. There's a new rider on the horizon.
Ever hear of Tom DeLay? You'll wish you hadn't.
DeLay is the third ranking Republican in the House of Representatives...also known as a "whip". He is one of the most powerful politicians in America. And he is also quite loony tunes.
This man's goal in life is to make a "God-centered nation".
He says, "Our entire system is built on the Judeo-Christian ethic, but it fell apart when we started denying God. If you stand up today and acknowledge God, they will destroy you."
Whoa! Not only is the first sentence dead wrong, but take a look at the second  one. First of all, who is "They" (paranoia? That's just what we need in a politician), and second, why didn't they destroy Bush? Or Gore? Clinton? Leiberman? In fact, I can't think of a single atheist politician...all the ones I can think of are very publicly religious.
DeLay also says his main mission is to "bring us back to the Constitution and the Absolute Truth that has been manipulated and destroyed by a liberal worldview."
Ever notice how it's always Liberals vs. Christians? What about Liberal Christians? I'm not either one, but this disgusts me.
And what about the first amendment? Freedom of religion cannot be had in a country that teaches the Judeo Christian god is the "Absolute Truth".
To hell with him, in a way I hope he does get powerful. Maybe even become President. Let's see him violate my rights.
The Day that Counts (5/31/01)
First, there was a national day of prayer. Then "faith based initiative". Now it's religion taxes. Now are you ready to get even?

There are roughly 27 million atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers in this country. So, according to this website, it's time to take a stand and tell the government that we also matter. We're a minority, but still a big enough chunk for people to take notice.

Here's what happens...on July 17, non-religious people from everywhere will send mails, faxes, and phone calls to the President, or your own Congressional representative or senator. (Don't e-mail, they don't pay attention to those).
       Go to www.thedaythatcounts.org
Go to their website for more information on how to be heard. At least go sign their petition.
