Progress on Wings

June 2004 to November 2004 - With the empennage at the mostly completed point I've moved on to the wings. During this time frame I've also attended the Rocky Mountain EAA airshow, gone to Fairbanks for Midnight Sun festivities, attended the Arlington, Washington EAA airshow, and took a EAA Sportair wiring workshop class. I also finally got current with a new BFR and now have been able to get out and do some flying.

  • Setup push tubes.
  • Aileron gap faring and flap brace match drilling.
  • Aileron gap faring and rear spar hinges.
  • Having to much fun deburring the flap brace.
  • Flap brace and aileron gap faring fitted in place.
  • Fitting the bottom skin for match drilling.
  • Bought Gretz Aero pitot mount for the Dynon system.
  • Second view of pitot mount.
  • Getting the hinge mounts on the ailerons.
  • First aileron mounted on right wing.
  • Inboard aileron hinge.
  • Second view of inboard aileron hinge.
  • View of outboard aileron hinges.
  • Both ailerons mounted on wings.
  • Rear wing spar tab trimmed according to drawing 38 specs.
  • Finding neutral location for trailing edge of aileron.
  • Marks for trailing edge of aileron.
  • Unpacked the flaps and prepared the hinges.
  • Clamping the flap in place to drill piano hinge.
  • Drilling rivet holes in flap hinge.
  • Second flap in place on left wing.

    January 3, 2005

  • Rivet flap hinge, brace, skin together.
  • View wiring conduit.
  • Wiring conduit on outboard wing end.
  • Used drill extensions and right angle drill to route the conduit.
  • The install of the Duckworks landing light in right wing.
  • Landing light mount in right wing.
  • Finished product but wiring still pending.
  • Bottom of right wing without skin.
  • Prepare bottom skins - always my favorite part - drill, deburr, dimple.
  • Skin ready to install - this should be a challenge.

    Stay Tuned .....

    The fun continues!
