The 24th Texas T Party was held the first weekend of October, 2001, in
Lufkin, Texas. Hosted by Space City Ts of Houston, this regional tour for
the Model T Ford Club of America is always well attended by Model T Ford
enthusiasts from across America and beyond.

Thursday, October 4

Less than half of the line-up of cars for the "early
tour" Thursday afternoon. Strangely enough, the touring car just
ahead of us sported a
festive rubber chicken.

Heading out from the hotel, we're still trailing the rubber
chicken!

Inside the Texas Forestry Museum, we saw this engine
manufactured by Houston-Stanwood & Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Circa 1900, this engine provides 150 hp at 150 rpm with an 18" x 36"
bore and stroke, capable of producing a daily production of 35,000 board feet of
lumber.

This is an Ox-drawn or Mule-drawn cart for hauling logs built
in 1950 -- it was newer than it looked.

The cars sit abandoned while their drivers and passengers
enjoy the museum and its surrounding grounds.

Ts in the parking lot of the Denman Baptist Church where we
were served a delicious hamburger dinner by their Youth Group.
Friday, October 5

The weather Friday morning was warm, cloudy and humid but as
you can tell, even more Model Ts and their drivers and passengers were lined up
ready to go at 9:00 a.m.

Model Ts driving along the tree-lined roads into the Davy
Crockett National Forest.

Just a little reminder that even the best laid plans for a
tour can always be enlivened with a bit of road construction.

A good example of what are called the Piney Woods of East
Texas can be found in the Davy Crockett National Park. Ratliff Lake
is in the background.

Uh, oh! Another rubber chicken decorating a touring car!!

You're looking across the lake. These lily pads were
huge!

We were enjoying a nice picnic lunch when a soft rain started,
worrying more than just the human participants.

Back
at the hotel, people were tweeking and tuning their Model Ts in preparation for
Saturday's tour. Meet "Matilda" -- another touring car with a
surprise inside.

Saturday, October 6
The
rain, which had let up shortly after lunch on Friday, started up again about
dinner time as the cold front finally made it's arrival in Lufkin.
Saturday morning arrived with a heavily overcast gray sky so side curtains were
very much in evidence.

Old
Fuzz, New Fuzz. But a special word of thanks to the Lufkin Police
Department who did a terrific job getting everyone through the traffic with
hopefully a minimum of inconvenience to Lufkin citizens.

Saturday's
tour took us into the Angelina National Forest where we stopped at Lake Sam
Rayburn. Equally evident among the pine trees are the beautiful hardwood
trees, many draped with hanging moss.

Oh,
no! This touring car's rubber chicken is missing!!!
Perhaps
it's a Houdini chicken that escaped?

Lunch
was a terrific barbeque provided by the Zavalla Chamber of Commerce. This
was a kick-off fund raiser for a new community medical center for Zavalla.

Heading
back to the hotel in what turned out to be perfect Model T weather!

The
Model Ts return to their trailers for the long trip home.
