I walked back up the stairs and into my hole in the wall about an hour and a half after I'd originally left. The door was left slightly opened and I pushed it the full way with my foot. Why was the door open? My mind raced, and then I caught sight of Monkey sitting on the sofa. She looked up when she heard the door open.

"What th..." I started, she cut me off.

"We gotta leave. We gotta leave now."

I just stared at her quizically and tossed the food I'd bought down on the bed.

"What are you talking about?"

"They came here. They hit me...said we're sposed to leave town," she rambled.

"Complete sentences, kid. Who?"

"Jack, Racetrack, and others, they said we have to leave, so let's go...now!"

My heartbeat quickened, I didn't know where we were supposed to go, I didn't know where we could go.

"Well, where do you expect me to take you? It's the middle of the afternoon and I can guarantee they haven't gone back to Manhattan!" I was scared, there were too many of them for me to deal with with only her help. Then I began to wonder, what if they'd seen me come back? They'd surely follow me, or wait until tonight when we went to bed, "McCartney, I dunno what I'm sposed to do."

Softly, she started to make a suggestion, "Well, I know a place..."

"Where?"

"We could go back to the place I was living before I met you and this whole ordeal. I'm sure Miss Hemingway would let us stay..."

"No way, nuh-uh. Not wit' dem little snooty rich girls."

"But they'll never look there! Not in a million years, and we won't really have to leave town or anything."

"No. I'll hide in my kitchen cabinets before I'd go there."

"You'd never fit in your kitchen cabinet, it's too small."

"Oh yeah," I stormed into the kitchen and opened the lowest cabinets and climbed in rather comfortably. "Eh, 'ow's that? I fit, an there's room for me to move too....Hey, what? Monkey! STOP IT! THIS AIN'T FUNNY. I'M GONNA KILL YOU."

She closed the cabinets and shoved something through the handles on the outside.

"McCain, you NEED to listen to reason, so sit there and shaddup and listen to me."
