"What is it, McCartney? What time is it?" I asked.
"Shhh. We need to figure a way to get you to that trial."
"Me and Greyson already..."
"No! You don't understand!"
I narrowed my eyes at her and stood, "How have you managed to mess it up this time, McCartney? What did you do?"
"I told MacRae everything he wanted to know and now I have to testify!"
"You're kidding, right? Great, just great, there goes our plan... Whooosh! Down the gutter!" I started pacing, "You don't expect me to go there by myself, right?"
"No, but if we tell MacRae that you're connected to Greyson then they'll let you go."
I cut her off, "Yeah, and then I'LL have to testify which may as well be suicide!!! No, McCartney, we don't reveal ANY connection between me and Greyson, period."
She began to plead and I opposed and then things got loud.
"NO, it's not going to work."
"Yes it will, trust me!"
"I won't trust a word out of your mouth."
"FOR GOD'S SAKE, SHUT UP!" And we both stared, Jack had awoken and joined in our bickering.
The din gradually became louder, and louder and louder until Greyson woke up and began trying to mediate everything. You'd think the building would crumble under the vibrations, but it didn't and so the arguing kept raging on. The back of my mind kept wondering where an officer was to shut Monkey up and tell her that I was right, but none showed for some time. When he did show, he was a scrawny string of a thing that couldn't handle rats in a cage, much less dangerous people.
The whole thing was finally resolved when MacRae came thundering in, shouting for order and quiet at that instant. It worked. Everybody became silent; you could have cut the tension with a knife. MacRae then made Monkey go back to the lobby and wait while he came to my cell.
"Well, you haven't caused TOO much trouble and I'll be damned if I keep you here any longer than I have to," As he unlocked the cell and I ran out to the lobby to be with Monkey and stopped dead in my tracks shooting a glare that could kill when I saw Cheater, Twiggy, and Mush; filthy traitors.
"And what's this about?" I asked, extremely suspicious of the group.
Mush stepped forward, "We're taking you to the trial."
"What? After you turned your backs on me?"
"We weren't in our right minds," Cheater added.
"Well, that's for sure," but I thought about it and being shoved in with the crowd could have its advantages, I weighed the options and decided that it would be a good idea. The only thing I wasn't in agreement with at the moment was Monkey testifying, I hoped she prayed hard the night before.
