ESSENTIAL READING:
"King Of Comedy" by Shawn Levy, St. Martin's Press 1996.
Without question the most extensively researched book on the life of Jerry Lewis. Lewis was initially involved with this project but the relationship between him and the author quickly deteriorated. Levy has respect for Lewis as an artist, but does not hesitate to point out the shortcomings of Lewis the person.

"Jerry Lewis In Person" by Jerry Lewis, Pinnacle Books.
Out of print. Great autobiography, well worth seeking out. Very honest with Lewis openly discussing his decade plus of addiction to painkillers. which resulted from cracking his spine in 1965.

"The Total Film-Maker" by Jerry Lewis, Random House. Original edition is out of print. The book has been reissued and is avaliable from The Official Jerry Lewis Comedy Museum. I do not know who published the current version. In the early 1970's Lewis was a guest professor at University of Southern California, lecturing graduate students of film. The total of his lectures were recorded, transcribed, and edited by Lewis.
