All factual
material in my discussion of Jerry Lewis came from either
"King Of Comedy" by Shawn Levy or "Jerry Lewis In Person"
by Jerry Lewis,
unless otherwise indicated.
All opinions expressed are mine, unless
otherwise stated.
ESSENTIAL
READING: "Jerry
Lewis In Person" by Jerry Lewis, Pinnacle Books. "The
Total Film-Maker" by Jerry Lewis, Random House. Original edition
is out of print. The book has been reissued and is avaliable from
The Official Jerry Lewis
Comedy Museum. I do not know who published the current version.
In the early 1970's Lewis was a guest professor at University of Southern
California, lecturing graduate students of film. The total of his
lectures were recorded, transcribed, and edited by Lewis. |
![]() My first pressing hardcover copy of Shawn Levy's book. Cover photograph by Eddie Adams, 1984. Sadly the currently in print softcover version has a redesigned cover and does not use this excellent photograph. |
OTHER
RECOMMENDED BOOKS:
"The Jerry Lewis Films: An Analytical Filmography Of
The Innovative Comic" by James
Neibar & Ted Okuda, McFarland And Company.
"Inventing Jerry Lewis" by Frank Krutnik, Smithsonian
Institution Press.
RECOMMENDED
WEB SITES:
The Official
Jerry Lewis Comedy Museum And Store - this is the official Jerry Lewis
web
site and is run by his son Chris Lewis.
The
Nutty Professional by Jonathan Rosenbaum. A good article on the film "The
Nutty Professor" which is included as part of
the American Movie Classics web site.
