P.S. I just got a BOSS MT-2 for Christmas - yes, that's right - the almighty MetalZone pedal. If you're playing music that requires some decent high-gain distortion, I highly recommend that you go out and buy yourself one. Sure, you can get by with the AX1G or cheaper pedals like the BOSS DS-1 (which is about half the price at $34 at Sam Ash), or those things DOD calls distortion pedals, but eventually you're going to want an MT-2. Everyone does. Everyone wants a BOSS. Beware: it's not for the unadventurous! Lots of dials!

MAIDEN
This is what i call my Maiden sound. Distortion should sound pretty close to Iron Maiden's sound. Will really sound killer cranked up. I own a ton of effects and to this day this is my fasvorite distortion sound. This distortion is also very good for playin a lot of 80's metal. If you need to add more treble to the sound,, just turn up the high G section in the tone area. i have mine set to 6 for my amp.

PANTRA
The Pantera distorted sound. I found that using MTLCA didn't quite get the Pantera tone, and there wasn't enough gain for satisfying pinch harmonics. This one sounds much better for Pantera stuff, although the kind of gain that would be nice (and accurate) is beyond what the AX1G can offer. Also, much more NR for those Dimebag-like chunky "holes of silence".

MTLCA (UPDATED)
One of my absolute favorites!! Older Metallica, Slayer sound. Your basic no-frills, palm-muting-ready, scooped metal distortion. Will suit most 80's and some 90's metal. This is a nice solid distortion that really shows what the AX1G is capable of.

SLAYR
Not just your average Slayer sound. Start with the pedal up. Play some riffs. Depress the pedal completely to get harmony in parallel fourths, like a lot of ominous-sounding Slayer riffs. Because the AX1G doesn't have intelligent pitch shifting, the only types of harmony (two guitars playing at once) you can get are parallel fourths, fifths and octaves. Slayer uses parallel fourths in a lot of riffs - just depress the pedal all the way and see what it sounds like.

KORNY 7
Korn sound. Basically, heavy distortion pitch shifted down a fifth to simulate a detuned 7-string guitar sound using a standard-tuned 6-string. Will suit a lot of 90's nu-metal (and even some real metal now that Slayer used 7-strings on God Hates us All).

SABBATH
Black Sabbath sound. Basically, medium distortion pitch shifted down 3 semitones to simulate God Toni Iommi's C# tuning using a standard-tuned 6-string. Although Sabbath invented heavy metal and have been around since '69, this 3-semitone downtune will suit a lot of 90's metal, including Limp Bizkit (I think they tune down to C# for Break Stuff? But who cares!?).

DIVEBOMB
Use it for Van Halen! Play a blinding solo, hold a note and gradually depress the pedal for a two-octave divebomb!! You gotta depress the pedal gradually or it'll sound computer-generated.

GRUNGE
Nirvana-ish sound. Play with a combination of bridge and neck pickups, max out the bridge pickup for tone and volume, put the neck pickup in for about 4 on the volume and you've got heavy, mean distortion perfect for Nirvana. Will also suit a lot of '90's metal if you detune your guitar.
