All right, you've decided to build your site, or you've already started? That's all very good, but what you don't know is that it might soon become an obssession. We've all been through this, haven't we... :) So here are a few advice not to loose your health and social life because of Buffy... I haven't followed them myself, and I can tell you that today I'm a real vegetable !

  1. Before you even start your site, make a plan as precise as possible. You've got to know almost everything that's gonna be in there, or you encure the risk to have some naviguation problems...

  2. Make yourself a precise work program for each day, or you'll probably end up spending 10h a day in front of your computer, and this is definitely not good for your social life.

  3. Keep a notepad next to your computer: you'll need it more often than you think...

  4. Decide an hour where you'll stop and go to bed, otherwise your alarm clock may ring while you're still working on the ab-so-lu-te-ly beautiful header ...

  5. Keep a notepad near your bed, so that you can note all the wonderful ideas you get while you're trying to sleep. You'll see, it's much easier to find sleep once you know you won't foget them in the morning...

  6. Of course, details are important, but I strongly advise you to start by building all the pages, even if you change the graphics later. A site may be really beautiful, but if all its pages are in construction, well...

  7. Check your site often and entirely for all broken links. Yeah, I know this is boring as death, but it is a necessity as well as a duty towards the visitors.

  8. Don't get depressed if nobody comes visit your site at first ! Your site may be absolutely great, it's not the only one out there, and since it's new it doesn't have a reputation yet. Make sure you submit it to all important searchers (yahoo, voila, lycos, etc...) and sign as many guestbooks as possible, asking as many nicely as possible if the owner of the site could come visit yours and link to it if he likes it. Unless the webmaster specifies that he'll do so, don't go: "I put a link to your site, so you've got to put a link to mine", since this is not a criterium (not for me anyway). Make sure your site has at least one banner that people can use to link to it.

  9. Don't even try stealing original graphics, you are sure to get a infuriated (justified!) e-mail claiming for the graphics in question. However, there are plenty of site where you'll find plenty of free graphics and anim gif.

  10. Don't forget: this is just a site ! Go out sometimes !
