Cursed and Suffering
In Romania in 1898, In a twist of fate, Angel killed the favourite daughter of a Romany tribe
In their grief over the death of their favourite daughter, they cursed him, restoring his soul and condemning him to an eternal life of regret and guilt. Only a moment of pure happiness could break the curse.
He was forced to live in anguish over the acts he had committed as a vampire finally suffering the harsh consequences.

A new beginning: Angel's return
When Angel was unexpectedly released from Hell's clutches, he knew it was for a reason. Departing Sunnydale, Angel left the woman he still loved and moved to L.A. to find his purpose and to redeem himself in the service of others.

He found support from Doyle, sent by the Powers That Be, and Cordelia, a fellow Sunnydale transplant on the road to fame and wealth. They formed "Angel Investigations," protecting those who cannot defend themselves and helping other lost souls find their way.
After Doyle's tragic death, his trusted friend and connection to the Powers That Be, Angel became even more protective of those who mean the most to him. Wesley, Faith's former Watcher, came to town as a rogue demon hunter, but stayed to help Angel and Cordelia. The team was later joined by Gunn, an unlikely partner and self-proclaimed Slayer, but a formidable force nonetheless.

The Future
Los Angeles is now Angel's city. But however good his intentions, Angel is still tempted by mortality and pleasure - two desires he can never fulfil and retain his soul. Every day he is called to walk among mortals, wishing he could be one of them even while the demon inside him lusts for their blood. He knows, though, that the only true path to redemption is a hard one  and he proves his conviction through every painful test. Even when it means giving up the chance for a normal life as a human with Buffy, so that he can protect her, and carrying the burden of remembrance alone.
Prophecies have foretold that Angel can look forward to forgiveness after "he survives the coming darkness, some apocalyptic battles, a few plagues and fiends that will be unleashed."

Career
David Boreanaz's catapult to stardom began one fateful day during a walk in the park. Spotted with his dog Bertha Blue by a Hollywood talent manager, he was immediately signed to an agency.
While David was studying the craft of acting, he lived the life of a normal man doing jobs such as parking cars, painting houses and handing out towels at a sports club.
After three auditions, he landed the role of Angel, a dark, sensitive and tortured vampire with a soul. You could say the rest is history.

Born in Buffalo and raised in Philadelphia, David was exposed to television at an early age - his father is a weather forecaster for WPVI in Philadelphia. But it wasn't until he saw a performance of The King and I, starring Yul Brynner, that he had a feeling acting was in his stars. Graduating from Ithaca College with a degree in film, David moved to Los Angeles to embark on his career.
In the early years, David lived the life of a typical struggling Hollywood actor, working various odd jobs and small acting roles in television movies and commercials. His first break arrived when he was cast in Married...With Children as Kelly Bundy's (Christina Applegate) biker boyfriend. Then came that fateful walk in the park. He's never looked back.
On stage, David has performed at the Ensemble Theatre in Hatful of Rain, at the Gardner Stage in Italian-American Reconciliation and Fool for Love, and on Theatre Row in Cowboy Mouth. An avid admirer of New York, he hopes to act on Broadway in the future.

When not lurking on Angel, David plays golf every chance he gets. Like his vampire persona, he is a creature of the night. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his dog, Bertha Blue.
