"She still thinks I'm Little Miss Nobody, just her dumb little sister. Boy, is she in for a surprise." (Real Me) Character Info Character Name: Dawn Summers First Appearance: "Buffy Vs Dracula" (Season 5, right at end of episode) Family: Older sister, Buffy. Mother, Joyce. Known to us as Buffy's annoying younger sister, the one who tags along, has a crush on Xander and gets herself into trouble more often than not. But the reality is much scarier. Appearing out of nowhere, Dawn is really a mystical energy source more commonly known as "The Key", sent to Buffy in the form of a sister, to be protected and hidden from an ancient evil Goddess called "Glory". We first learn about Dawn's character in "Real Me". She's pretty much the main focus of this episode. We get glimpses of her thoughts and feelings through her journal. We learn about what it's like to be the slayer's younger sister. There's a lot of sibling rivalry going on. We see that she has a crush on Xander, and that she thinks very highly of Willow. Dawn's personality comes out in this episode. So far, she's pretty much the typical teenager. She resents her sister being the slayer, she feels hard-done-by, and hates the fact that people treat her like "a kid". We initially see that Dawn is a burden to Buffy. An annoying younger sister, who gets in the way. The scooby gang are more prepared to give Dawn allowances, because she's young. Tara is most concerned about her. This episode although it does not explain the sudden presence of Dawn, gives subtle hints of what's to come. That was actually the first reason I started watching Buffy, because I admired Sarah's work, and I then I continued to watch because of the original and unique storylines." "If you ask me a question about 'Buffy'", I'll not only give you the answer but some background. It was always just a really interesting show to watch. Because every week had a new original storyline that was just as interesting as the last, and since Angel debuted, everything's great." (Cosmogirl! Online, Sept 2000) |
