Character Info Character Name: Doyle Traits: Able to transform from looking like a demon, to a human. Received painful visions of future traumas. Gambles and drinks too much. First appears in Angel Episode: 'City of'. Quick Summary: He was Angel's connection to The Powers that Be. They would send Doyle visions pointing Angel in the right direction of the next innocent person he needed to help. Had a thing for Cordelia. Doyle had unresolved gambling debts, and a wife. Used to be a teacher. Proved himself to be a true hero, as he sacrificed his own life to save his fellow demons from the Scourge's deadly bomb. Introduction: Doyle is half human / half demon. He's never met his father, a Bracken demon, and his spiky green demon genes didn't manifest physically until he was 21. At the age of 21, Doyle was a grammar school teacher, married to the love of his life, Harriet. Doyle did not cope well on discovering his demon heritage and his new ability to see the future (through painful visions). His marriage fell apart and Doyle turned to alcohol. Doyle gets visions of terrible things that are about to happen. These visions often lead him to people in distress. Something that Angel is able to use in order to carry out his fight against evil. Meeting Angel: His gift of seeing bad things that are about to happen in the future, are sent from beyond, accompanied by shockingly painful migraines. Armed with little more than pictures and sometimes a name, he sought out Angel and instructed the vampire to use his gift (or curse) to help those in danger. Doyle immediately became interested in Cordelia, but was afraid that she would reject him if she found out he was a half-demon. A reluctant hero, he nevertheless proved to possess great strength of character and a good, kind heart. A True Hero: It was this inner strength that gave Doyle the courage to save the lives of his friends. While on a mission to protect two-dozen demon-human hybrids from a militant, pureblood sect calling itself "The Scourge," Doyle made the ultimate sacrifice and proved that he was a real hero after all. A tragic death, for a worthy cause. Before his death, Cordelia found out Doyle's secret identity, and they shared a passionate kiss. Real Life Info Real name: Glenn Quinn DOB: Born May 27, 1970 Place of birth: Dublin, Ireland Probably best known for his reoccurring role on the hit sitcom Roseanne, as Becky's troubled but loving husband, Mark. on the hit sitcom Roseanne. His Irish Accent: Suppressing his Irish accent for the role, his performance was so convincing that few people realised he wasn't American. Fortunately, he used his native accent in the role of Doyle, Angel's spiritual mentor. "When you get to speak Irish, you become more at one with yourself, you kind of have a spark when you use it, and I think it's a great dialect. When they first cast me, I was a pretty avid fan of vampire movies and Celtic mythology, so I was excited to get a chance to walk in Doyle's shoes and have fun with it." Living in America: Glenn moved to the United States with his mother and two sisters at the age of 19. Soon after he arrived, he was spotted by casting director, Johanna Ray (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart) With no previous acting experience, he won his first feature film role as Gwyneth Paltrow's boyfriend in the John Travolta drama Shout. Then he auditioned for and landed the role of Mark on Roseanne. While starring on Roseanne, he was tapped to star in the short-lived but critically acclaimed medieval drama Covington Cross. "I'm into doing my own stunts. I learned [how to] years ago when I was doing a show for American TV called Covington Cross. I had a lot of fighting and rough stuff in that and I always want to do my own stunts -- it just looks a lot better. We've got really good stunt guys on the show and they teach us all this stuff. The other night I had to put on a back brace and pads and everything -- I want to participate and they're letting me, so it's pretty cool." Filmography: "Angel" (1999) TV Series ....
