Character Name: Tara Maclay

Tara's mother was a very powerful witch and Tara has been practising witchcraft since she was a small child. She first saw Willow at a Wicca group meeting on the University of Sunnydale campus.

We learn that Tara's mother is no longer alive.

TARA: My mother died when I was seventeen.
BUFFY: I didn't know. I'm sorry.
TARA: No, no, I didn't mean to ... (sighs) I'm only telling you this because ...
I know it's not m-my place, but ... (pauses) There's things ... thoughts and
reactions I had that ... I couldn't ... understand ... or even try to explain to
anyone else. (Buffy looks down, pensive) Thoughts that ... made me feel like I
was losing it ... or, like I was some kind of ho-horrible person. I know it's
different for you ... because it's always different, but ... if you ever need....

Tara is painfully shy and tends to stutter when too much attention is focused on her.

When the entire town of Sunnydale was stricken suddenly mute, Tara knew that she had to find Willow. She had the power to help Tara fix whatever was wrong. She researched her books, and found a section titled "Spells of Speech and Silence".

When the whole spell finally blows over, Willow and Tara manage to find time to talk about what has happened. Tara explains to Willow that she had hoped that they could do a spell to help restore the voices of the town.

Tara compares Willow's power to her own Mother's, telling Willow that she is special.

Near towards the end of series 4, Tara and Willow, eventually start up a relationship and they use their combined powers to help Buffy combat evil.

Willow's friends are a little shocked about her new relationshop with Tara, but are just glad to see happy.

We see their first screen kiss together in the episode 'The Body'.
