Alexander LaVelle Harris has lived in Sunnydale, California all his life.
His best friend is Willow, and although she had a crush on him throughout their childhood, Xander never retaliated this affection until it was too late (and in the process he broke Cordelia’s heart).

Xander is on the first episode of ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, where he learns of Buffy's secret by overhearing her and Giles talking about it in the school library. Along with Willow, he insists on helping Buffy in her subsequent adventures to fight evil.

Xander is the class clown. He's not popular, but he dates Cordelia, one of the more popular girls in Sunnydale. In the beginning Xander and Cordelia despise each other, but then we see that there’s a thin line between love and hate. They break up with each other in series 3 when Cordelia discovers him kissing Willow.
He has a brief crush on Buffy and from the very beginning he makes it clear that he doesn’t like Angel.

He gets it on with Anya (the girl he took to the senior Prom). She was once a vengeance demon and he tries to teach her the ways of the world.

Although not unintelligent by any means, despite referring to himself as "king of the cretins", Xander has never excelled academically, relying on Willow to tutor him on many subjects.

After leaving Sunnydale High, Xander decides not to follow through like his friends, and gives the whole college experience a miss. He drifts from one endless job to another throughout season 4 and finally settles down to a construction job (season 5). He eventually moves out of his parents basement and moves into his own apartment.
