Changes to BSCRA Rules

At the BSCRA Council Meeting on 2nd March 2008 the following changes to the BSCRA driver grading system were voted in.

B2:  Anyone who raced in 4 Clubman (or Novice Production) National Finals shall no longer no longer be eligible for Clubman.

NOTE This applies to all drivers regardless of age.

B3: Change the rule which says "Anyone who has finished in the top 50 in one or more open individual classes at the Nationals in any two years in the last 20 years is not eligible for Clubman". To says "Anyone who has finished above the bottom 5 places in an overall individual National Championship with less than 50 competitors AND / OR in the top 45 in an overall individual National Championship with 50 or more competitors at the Nationals in any two years in the last 20 years is not eligible for Clubman".

B4: Anybody in the current ISRA World Ranking list with more than 0.99 points shall be ineligible for Clubman. NOTE This is aimed at preventing overseas experts being eligible for the clubman class.  A driver who has made a one off appearance in the Worlds team event will remain eligible for Clubman unless they made the top 24.

These will apply from 1st June 2008.

Proposals A1, A2 and B1 were defeated.

Rule Change Proposals - The Original Announcements

The following changes to BSCRA rules have been proposed. Could members please give their votes to their Area Co-Ordinators.  It is recommended you give your votes to your Area Co-Ordinators by 10 February 2008.  (Please note Area Co-Ordinators must pass their area vote on to the BSCRA Secretary by 20 February 2008.)
Any amendments to the proposals should be proposed and seconded by a BSCRA member and sent to the BSCRA secretary (Chris Frost) to arrive by  1st February 2008.  These amendments will appear on the BSCRA web site as soon as possible after 1st Feb.

A: Proposals on Track Calls

A1:  Drivers will have one lap subtracted from their race total for each track call they make.  No penalty is applied if the marshal makes a track call.

Proposer’s NOTE this is intended to reduce the number of unnecessary track calls. It is also better to lose 1 lap, rather than having your car destroyed from being in the wrong slot. The decision on whether it is a track call or not, is made by the driver, not the race controller who currently has to decide if it is a legitimate call or not.

A2:  For every illegal call, made by a driver, there will be a 2 lap penalty assessed.

B Proposal on the Driver Grading System

B1:  Senior drivers who has raced in a Clubman (or Novice Production) National Final shall no longer be eligible for Clubman. A senior driver is anyone aged over sixteen on January 1 in the year when the final was held.

NOTE Junior drivers (under 16s) who race in the Clubman final remain eligible for Clubman unless they are promoted out of Clubman for some other reason.

There are no amendments for members to vote on ( Originally it said Any amendments to the above proposals should be sent to BSCRA secretary (Chris Frost) before 1st February 2008.)

Child Protection Officer

A volunteer is needed for the new post of BSCRA Child Protection Officer. If you would like more details of this important new role please contact  Chris Frost.  Please send nominations (proposed and seconded by BSCRA members) to Chris Frost by 20th February 2008.

Paul Bucknell has volunteered to take on this post.

Other Posts

It is also worth mentioning that BSCRA Council members and other officials are appointed each year (except for the magazine editor who is appointed for two years). Very often the existing Council member is the only candidate for their post, so they are reappointed unopposed.   However, other BSCRA members can be proposed for these posts.  If there is more than one candidate for a Council post, then an election is held – and all BSCRA members have the opportunity to vote.

The existing officials are standing for re appointment.

I should point out that there is a lot of work for officials to do, so the posts are only suitable for people with the time as well as the enthusiasm to do the work.   Some of this work will be obvious to members but a lot of the work needed to run the Association takes place “behind the scenes”.    Anybody who is thinking of standing would be well advised to find out more about what’s involved first – this might best be done by contacting the Chairman, Secretary or the official currently in the post.  Please send nominations for candidates (proposed and seconded by BSCRA members) to the BSCRA secretary (Chris Frost) by 20th February 2008.

Chris Frost

BSCRA Secretary

Reminder - Changes to BSCRA Rules

There are only a few days left to the 1st December deadline for rule change proposals.

Many members will remember that there is an opportunity to put forward changes to BSCRA rules at this time of year, and members were told about it in the October 2007 SCRN.   This year BSCRA is in the middle of a two year freeze on car and track standards.   (You may remember that BSCRA members voted for this in a postal vote in the summer 2004)   However if there are any other changes you’d like to put forward, please talk to any member of the BSCRA Council.  The proposal needs to be endorsed by a BSCRA Council member and received by the BSCRA secretary (Chris Frost ) by 1st December 2007.  The proposals will then be published in SCRN so all BSCRA members discuss and vote on them.

Perhaps I should mention that the 2 year rule freeze doesn’t apply to adding new products to the approved list.    Nor does the freeze apply where an  existing rule is unclear, and needs an interpretation. The approval of new products and rule interpretations are organised by the BSCRA Competition Rules Committee (Chairman Ian Fisher).    As most of you know, new bodyshells are added to the approved list several times a year.
