THE LOWDOWN: Director Willard Carroll adapted the script from his own play Dancing About Architecture. The name was changed due to the confusing title which originally meant: "Talking about love is like dancing about architecture." When the film was released it became the number one film in New York City during its opening weekend. Though it had a healthy per screen average when it went wider, it, unfortunately never found the audience it deserved in middle America. Critical reaction was good to mixed. However, the picture is actually one of the smarter and better written movies to come out of Hollywood all year. Though not all the stories are equal in quality, the film comes together nicely in the end. Even critics who didn't like the film were quick to point out that the Angelina Jolie/Ryan Phillippe storyline was THE highlight. This is on my not to be missed Ryan Phillippe movie list.
THE PLOT: Love and relationships as seen through the eyes of a group of interconnected stories in the City of Angels.
RYAN'S PART: As the blue haired club kid, Ryan gets to work opposite 1999Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie. The two meet at a dance club, however, he is cautious about getting too close to her.
