Brief history of Gospel of Matthew

The Gospel of Matthew was thought to have been written by a Jewish Christian of Palestinian origin. The approximate date this Gospel was thought to have been written in A.D. 70-85 in Syria(Antioch). Matthew's Gospel was written for his audience that mainly consisted of Christians. The image of Jesus this evangelist presented to his audience was the image of Jesus as a Teacher. In his geneology, Matthew traces Jesus' ancestry back to Abraham and David; since the Jewish Messiah was from the line of David, this geneology strengthened the Jewish Christian's faith.

they persecuted the prophets before you"
