Entry for April 22, 2007
The mandolin arrived yesterday & is it a beauty.
Immediately took off the old strings & put on new ones,oiling the fretboard before the new strings went on. It's settling in very nicely and I can't believe how much better it sounds than my Kentucky! Checked the electronics & they work fine. Was plucking away in front of the TV.
Went to see a Heavy Mountain train (A.T.& S.F) depart out of San Pedro-I never knew those things were so loud when they gear up to go-the steam sounds as loud as a jet.
They are huge in size......no wonder so many were in awe of them in their day.Afterwards we went to the Maritime museum as I'd never been there before-which is where the pic of the figurehead comes from. The wasn't any info I could find on her either,drat it! Dad & I enjoyed the day very much. Picked up a pizza on the way home & devoured that & coffee. 
It was fascinating seeing pictures that were over 100 years old of the port of Los Angeles-and there was a photo of a general store with stagecoaches in front of it.
