See how a musician/Bard goes thru her daily adventures!
Entry for May 18, 2007
It's my 2nd time today in attempting to compose an entry-on the first try I received a call from an out of state friend. It turned into a very productive conversation with progress made in our own genres of activity!
My friend sounds outrageously busy in his blog, and he's probably dying for some spare time. I,on the other hand get spare time, and while I don't waste all of it,it does hit me that I need to use what I have in more productive ways.
The hours fly by-I have an unusual day at home to myself, and while I haven't accomplished tons I have managed to do some house cleaning/blessing done, using sea salt,a chant, and my trusty bell. And there was your elbow grease cleaning, aside from shopping for fathers day on the web. I spied something he'll like, and he's never seen before,so I give myself a gold star on actually finding a cool item. On a magic store sight of all things. They also had transparent playing cards, which I'd neither heard of or seen-well I had
to throw those in the web cart as well! Which leads me to a memory from long ago.
When I was a kid,I was really taken in by magicians-I wanted to learn all that mystifying stuff-so my mom let me join a magic trick of the month club or some such. Mom got me the magic magazines of the day-when Mark Wilson & Doug Henning were household words.
I still have all those hokey magic tricks somewhere. Weird thing with my mother was she didn't want me really entertaining-she hadn't done my natal chart quite right and assumed I was a "double" leo-her life mission was to make sure I did not become the center of attention, nor seek it in any way. She loved me,but I was to mind my place just outside of the circle and look in like a kid at the candy store. Most parents that have a child that displays some sort of talent normally invites that child to show off their stuff when company comes, but not my mom. Playing guitar was fine-learning a trick was fine, but no performing allowed! I recall telling her I wanted to learn violin-something most parents would give their eye teeth to hear. My dad had a violin as he was forced to play on it by his parents-in turn he put it down as soon as he moved away from his parents and never touched it again. I figured that taking up that one would save the $$ of buying or renting an instrument. Oh mom had a cow-she wasn't about to have that noise in the house!!!
In truth-she needn't have held me back so much-in my 20's I discovered via computer that I have a cancer rising-I needed the opposite-a cheerleader to say "get out there & play...... perform whatever it is!!!"
Dismantling this old programming isn't easy-I want to perform and find all sorts of dumb & crappy excuses that somehow have made sense till lately-and I'd still like to try out violin, but then I haven't gotten a good handle on mandolin or juggling yet,not to mention magic tricks. So maybe this year will be different-I could become a mandolinist who knows a card or coin trick or two,& juggles.
