Entry for May 28, 2007
How I "celebrate" Memorial Day has changed considerably since the whole Iraq war started. When I was a kid,I knew the meaning of the holiday, but in my youthful reality,it meant a day off from school,no mail delivery,a day to display the flag, and smelling neighbors BBQs. How times change. Taken in context of the present time,"celebrate" seems totally inappropriate. I watched 60 min. last night, and see how huge the sacrifice has been. To honor soldiers from the past & present seems more proper, even if it's in my own mind and a heartfelt "Thank you" to all those serving as well as those who's serving is done, whether thru injury or the "ultimate sacrifice" via this blog. So with all my heart,to the men & women who are serving,or have served, thank you.
