Entry for June 10, 2007

Another June Gloom morning hovers in all it's cool & refreshing glory! I'm reading Carnelians blogs, and I must say they inspire the writer in me. I always look forward to "the next chapter".
And to add a few colorful ditties of my own on education, the jr college kids are scaring the hell out of me. Enrollment is on for summer & fall, and I had a girl at my window wanting to pay for the next semester. "Summer?" I ask.... (these kids don't know about the 4 seasons,be it seasonal, spices,or Vivaldi) "no,the next one" she says, unsure of herself. "Autumn?" I ask again. She looks at me bewildered, and says "what's autumn?"
I'm not against technology and yes I'm a computer geek but the current obsession with cell phones, texting devices, and the MP3 player has whirled out of control. Growing up in a world where none of these things existed, and hi tech was having a pager with the buzz option, meant I had all the time in the world to learn guitar, read, observe the flowers blooming,be creative, and interact....with my environment and with others in person. And parents aren't helping. You have no idea how many moms are texting their little darlings non stop-it's the new wireless leash.
I have started enforcing some rules for myself-after having a pc of some sort since 1998,and gone thru the addicted to web syndrome,I have made a point of leaving the thing off totally 2 days per week. And you wouldn't believe what happens. My mind gets to wander. A new song gets worked on. The beach mandolin gets pampered-an oiled fretboard and new strings. Flowerbeds get reincarnated, weeds disappear, fruit gets picked and the sewing machine purrs. I may stretch it to three-(tho I can't leave it for too long as I always have auctions going)
And there's the wonderful side too-I have made (and met in person!) a friend or two, which wouldn't have been possible without the internet. I can look at houses in other state without leaving the state I'm in. (that comment covers lot of territory.......)
