Three months have passed since the events that transpired in last season's finale. Chloe's cousin Lois Lane tries to find her killer; Clark returns from wherever it was he's been; Lex hunts for buried treasure; Martha tries to save her family.

What's up with Lois: Lois watches Chloe's video will and testament. In it, Chloe asks Clark to find out who killed her, so, Lois heads off to Smallville to find this guy named Clark Kent. As she's driving down the road she's forced off by a bolt of lightening and soon witness an intense electric storm. When she steps out of her car, she sees Clark. Naked Clark. However, he's disoriented and doesn't know his name. Lois takes him to the hospital.

What's up with Lex: Men speaking Arabic uncover a statue in an underground tomb. Lex quickly comes in and is pleased with the find. When he gets back to the plane, he continues his lifesaving blood purification. He was lucky to have survived the poisoned brandy, but still needs it every 72 hours to avoid death. When the statue breaks open, Lex picks up a giant crystal.

What's up with Martha: Martha reads to Jonathan. He's been in a coma for three months and doctors tell her he's brain dead, but she's not pulling the plug on him yet. When she steps out into the hall she sees Clark walking aimlessly around. She gives him a big hug, but he doesn't remember her. Before Clark says he's waiting for the sign. Martha tells him she can help, but he has to come home with her.

What's up with Lana: Lana is in Paris. And she's not alone, she's got a boyfriend, a guy named Jason Teague. Lana's in art school, and for one of her projects she takes a brass rubbing of an ancient tomb of a warrior princess. When she touches the rubbing of one of the tomb's symbols she's engulfed by light from the tomb.

What's up with Kal-El: When Lex touches the crystal, Clark falls to his knees. He gets up and proclaims to Martha he is Kal-el of Krypton and he is here to fulfill his destiny, Martha tries to stop him but he tells her Clark Kent is dead and FILES AWAY! He breaks into Lex's jet while it's still in the air and steals the crystal.

What's up with Lionel: Lionel is still in prison. But since Chloe's dead, he'll be out in two weeks. Lex stops by to visit and he accuses his father of hijacking his plane and stealing the crystal, who else could pull that off? It's revealed the crystal is one of three that when combined point to a vast treasure that contains more knowledge than the world has known.

How it ends up: Bridget Crosby calls on Martha. She's Dr. Swan's assistant. Martha is reluctant to trust her, but finally confides in her what's been going on. She did call for help after all. She tells Martha she must face her son to win him back. To help her, she's given black kryptonite... she's Clark's only hope.

Kal-El goes to the caves and enters a hidden room where he places the piece of crystal. When he emerges from the room, Martha is waiting. She touches him with the black kryptonite and proclaims her love for her son. Clark and Kal-El split apart and begin to battle one another, Martha throws Clark the black kryptonite and he plunges it into Kal-El vanquishing him, if only for the moment. As he does, Jonathan wakes from his coma and Clark falls into his mother's arms.

Lana wakes up in her bedroom, but doesn't remember how she got there. She missed her meeting with Jason, and while showering she notices a strange tattoo on her lower back... it's the symbol from the tomb!

Lois brings flowers to Chloe's grave. While there, Clark shows up and the too bond over their love of Chloe. Clark offers the Kent household to Lois while she's in town as well as his assistance in tracking down Chloe's murderer. Lois accepts, but while she's walking away Clark uses his x-ray vision to look into Chloe's EMPTY coffin! Wait! He says, Chloe's still alive!
