original airdate: Feb. 16, 2006
What's up with Lana:
Lana's driving at full speed when she hits a young man. She suffers some cuts to her forehead, but the man she hits is perfectly fine. He is left standing, his body leaving an indent in her vehicle. He drops Lana off at the hospital but then leaves in a hurry. Lana immediately calls Clark and tells him what happened.
What's up with Clark:
Clark looks for the bionic man and sees that he is a fellow football player from a rival high school, Victor Stone. Supposedly Victor died in a car accident, but clearly that is not what happened. Clark can see with his special vision that Victor is part machine. Victor is not happy with Clark's interrogation, so he throws Clark at a wall. Clark emerges unscathed. Now Victor wants to know what Clark is made of. Clark insists that he can help Victor, so he takes him back to the Kents' barn for safety. It is there that Victor explains what happened to him: his death was faked so that scientists at Syntechnics could experiment on him; he is the only person to survive the tests, and that is because a doctor named Dr. Hong set him free. All Victor wants to do is find his girlfriend, Katherine. Victor is not sure how she handle Victor's return, but that is a risk he is willing to take because he loves her so much.
What's up with Martha:
Martha's term in office doesn't start off so well. The newly appointed senator receives a mysterious package on her porch. She opens it up; it's a DVD player with footage of the LuthorCorp warehouse where Clark saved Lana from a bomb. Someone knows the truth about Clark, and Martha will have to pay someone off to keep quiet.
What's up with Lionel:
Martha is about to pay off the blackmailer when Lionel arrives at the scene. He tells Martha not to give into people like that, and he reminds her again that he's there in case she needs any kind of help at all. He later also points out that he may be bad for Martha's reputation. Martha counters that she always stands by her friends, no matter what others think. Lionel is pleased.
What's up with Lex:
LuthorCorp owns Syntechnics, so Clark tells Lex that he knows about the unethical practices there. Lex doesn't appreciate Clark's accusatory tone. Lex says he doesn't know much about Syntechnics since LuthorCorp only acquired it a few months ago. However, Lex captures Victor at Katherine's house. Lex takes Victor back to the lab under the guise that he will help heal Victor, who escaped injured from guards who were after him. He's about to insert a chip into Victor's brain for monitoring purposes when Clark breaks into the lab to free Victor. Clark later tells Lex that he knows about what Lex was about to do to Victor, but Lex claims that Victor was in a drugged state and didn't understand his intentions.
How it ends:
A freed Victor reunites with Katherine at the barn. Lana looks at them wistfully. When they depart, Lana tells Clark that she loves him, but the relationship is stalling. Clark insists that he will always love her, no matter what happens.
Lionel gives an envolope of cash to an unidentified man. Then he reviews the same footage that Martha also received on DVD. As he watches, he says, "Your secret is safe with me, Kal-El.”
