Clark gets into politics, running for class president. One by one, bees attack his running mates. Clark suspects a candidate is purposely eliminating the competition, and he may be the next target.
What's up with candidate Paul? Paul Chan is the most qualified among the candidates for class president. He is swarmed and stung by bees that attack from their home in his bathroom drain. What's up with candidate Felice? Felice Chandler is the snobby rich girl cheerleader with the popularity vote.
What's up with Pete? Pete becomes Clark's campaign manager by posting a banner and getting him into the election without talking first. Pete is not much help on campaign platform, but he's great with "meet and greets" and promotion.
What's up with Clark? At first Clark dismisses the idea of running for class president. The Kents and Lana encourage him to run. Clark has noble aspirations that he can make a difference. He gets an idea for a slogan from Lex, "Clark Kent for President -- Man of Tomorrow."
What's up with Chloe? She's covering the elections, with pics and bios of each candidate, but can only endorse one in The Torch's editorial. When Chloe pressures Clark on what he stands for, his reply is "Truth, justice and other stuff." Chloe objectively endorses Paul for president, hurting Clark's feelings. Clark and Pete give Chloe the cold shoulder.
What's up with candidate Sasha? High-strung and worried about the competition, Sasha Woodman has the swarm of bees under her control. Sasha had been attacked by bees last year, and is now controlling all the bees in the state as their queen. She asks the front-runner, Felice to drop out of the race. Felice refuses. Later, Felice is found covered in bees inside her VW, leaving her comatose. Next Sasha pressures and threatens Clark to drop out of the race.
What's up with Lana? The Beanery is gaining all customers from the Talon. Lex wants Lana to figure out how to save the Talon's profits. He inspires her to fight the Beanery creatively in a war for business. As they work on Clark's campaign speech, Clark and Lana hear the bee swarm approaching. Clark pushes Lana to safety, and leads the swarm into another room. Tearing a refrigeration pipe from the wall, Clark freezes the bees.
What's up with Lex? Lex meets a Metropolis beauty with an attitude. She's Kerrie Castle, staff reporter from the Metropolis Journal, in Smallville to do a profile on Lex. Kerrie entices Lex with a fair cover story. At first he declines, but then agrees. Lex gets a draft, and sees that Ms. Castle's article doesn't deliver the flattering report she promised. She plans to make a name for herself as a hard-hitting journalist. Lex tries to pay her off, but she refuses and leaves. Later at the mansion, he tempts her with a job as Managing Editor at the Metropolis Journal. It's an offer she can't refuse, and she agrees to kill the article.
How it ends: Clark goes to Sasha's shed and finds Chloe there, tipped off by Lana. He mends feelings with Chloe, telling her he values their constant friendship. They find hives covering the ceiling. Chloe's research shows that Sasha emits a "queen scent" acquired when she was stung 1000+ times by killer bees living in a kryptonite-infected gorge in town. Not only are Smallville students in danger, but so is Sasha if she loses control and the bees swarm her.
Clark meets Sasha in his barn. He tells her he's dropping out of the election, and confronts her with the truth. Sasha's confident in her power, and sends the swarm to the field to attack Martha. Clark races to his mom, carrying her to the safety of the storm cellar. Clark gets back to Sasha's shed. The bees swarm the shed, breaking through windows, although Sasha didn't summon them. Clark throws a tool at propane tanks, shielding Sasha from the resulting fiery explosion. Felice and Sasha both drop out of the race, yet Clark still doesn't win the election. The victory goes to Paul, announced at a party at the Talon. Lex shows up at the celebration. Lana impresses Lex with news of her fight with the Beanery, and uncovering past health code violations.
Consoling Clark in his political loss, Lex tells Clark he "doesn't have to be an elected official to save the world." When Clark asks if Lex ever considered politics, he replies, "Some day I'd like to be President."
