original airdate: February 9, 2005

Lois is arrested; Clark is recruited by Metropolis University; Lex, Lana and Jason fall deeper into a tangled web of deception.

What's up with Lois: After a night of hard drinking, Lois stumbles home from a Metropolis bar. One of the guys, Coop, she was drinking under the table stumbles up to her and gets too fresh, so Lois kicks him in the chest and walks off. He's hurt, but seems fine. The next morning Lois' hangover is the least of her worries when the police arrest her telling her Coop is paralyzed.

What's up with Clark: Clark prepares for his visit to Metropolis U. The Bulldogs are recruiting Clark and he's thrilled. Jonathan however is less than ecstatic and voices his reservations, Clark does after all have super powers. But in the end he's proud of Clark and gives him his blessing. Just then, Geoff, aka the "Teflon Tailback," walks in. He's Met U's all-time leading rusher and a former Smallville High Crow.

What's up with Chloe: Lois heads to Smallville to see her cousin after she posts bail. They try to piece together what may have happened the night before. Clark and Geoff have stopped off to visit Smallville High before they head off to Met U. and Clark tells Lois he heard what happened. Apparently Coop is Geoff's roommate. In fact, Geoff was there that night in the bar.

What's up with Jason: He goes to see Lex and turns down his job offer. Lex talks him into reconsidering and tells him all he wants is what's best for Lana. He asks Jason to find out everything Lana and Jason's mother knows about the Countess Isabella.

What's up with Lana: She's very upset Jason took a job with Lex. He tries to convince her he can turn the tables on Lex, but Lana doesn't want any of it. She goes to see Lex and gives him a piece of her mind. He reiterates he's on her side and when she calms down and wants to talk, he'll be happy to explain everything.

What's up with Geoff: He takes Clark to Met U's stadium, where they're greeted by a band, cheerleaders and many adoring fans. The Bulldogs are pulling out all the stops to land their prize recruit. Later, Geoff takes Clark to a sorority house to show him more perks.

How it ends: Clark and Lois find out that Coop was going to squeal on the football program for using performance enhancing substances, in this case Kryptonite based. Geoff goes to the hospital and silences Coop permanently. Clark becomes aware of Geoff's illegal activities and confides in Lois and Chloe that he believes Geoff paralyzed Coop. The three head off to investigate and Lois runs into trouble... specifically Geoff. He knocks her out and drags her away. He leaves her in a basement and after lamenting about how he never wanted to hurt anyone, opens a water pipe and leaves her to drown.

Clark and Chloe use Geoff's car's navigation system to track him down. Clark rushes to the rescue and is able to pull Lois out of her watery turmoil. Later, at the farm, Clark tells his parents he doesn't want to be like Geoff, having to lie and scam to protect the fact he has special powers on the football field. He's giving up football and maybe his dreams of going to Met U. Jonathan tells him not to worry, they'll figure out a way to pay for college.

Lex shows Lana a picture of Jason and his mother together the day before he left Paris. Lana is shocked, his mother was suppose to be in the Hamptons. Lex asks how well she really knows Jason. Lois is kicked out of Met U for drinking and has no where to go, so Clark offers the farm as a place to stay. She gladly takes him up on the offer.
