Clark, Lana, Lex and Jason search for an artifact in China; Dr. Swann leaves Clark information and a gift; We find out why Gertrude and Isabelle hated one another.
What's up with Clark: Clark receives a package from Dr. Swann. Just as he opens it he watches a news report about Swann's death. Clark reads Swann's final message. He apologizes from shielding Clark from his father Jor-El for so long, Clark has a mission and only Jor-El can help him finish it... Swann's also sent him a final gift, the octagon key! Clark takes the key to the caves and goes into the hidden room behind the cave wall. When he inserts the key into the stone table, Jor-El tells him that he may be the last survivor of Krypton. His job is to find the three stones that contain all Kryptonian knowledge. Clark must find the remaining two stones before humanity does.
What's up with Jason: Jason calls Lana and tells her he's on business in Metropolis. When he hangs up it turns out he's in China and he's not alone. Lex has followed him, he knows Lionel gave him the map, and he's not going to let Jason find the stone without him.
What's up with Lana: Lionel tells Lana that Jason and Lex are in China together. He then tells her that Gertrude (Jason's ancestor) was obsessed with finding three stones and that she sent Isabelle (Lana's ancestor) to find them. Isabelle never found the stones, only a map, but she hid it from Gertrude and was killed for it. Lionel makes arrangements for Lana to go to China on the Luthorcorp jet and puts her in touch with a professor who should be able to help her. As she prepares to leave, Clark arrives and tells her he's coming with her.
What's up with Lex: Lex and Jason are captured and thrown in a cell. Jason and Lex confide a little in each other before the guards come and drag Lex away. When he's brought back, Lex looks beaten up and as they drag Jason away he yells for him to tell them whatever they want. When Jason's out of ear shot, Lex gets up and tells the guard to only scare him. Turns out this was a set up to find out what Jason knows. The guard tells Lex he's sorry, someone with more money doesn't care. They drag a double crossed Lex off as he screams he never wanted anyone hurt.
How it ends up: Lana and Clark find Professor Sen, the woman who's suppose to help them. She tells them she can take them to the temple. When they arrive Clark uses his X-ray vision to discover a hidden room. As Lana and Sen search on, Clark opens the hidden chamber only to discover it's full of kryptonite. While Clark writhes in pain, Lana and Sen are jumped by the same guys that nabbed Lex and Jason, but this time they shoot to kill. Sen dies, but Lana is spared when they discover her tattoo.
Lana's taken to a torture chamber, where Lex and Jason are already being violently tortured. When they zap Lana with electricity she channels Isabelle and a fight ensues. It doesn't last long as she dispatches the guards. She tells Jason he's doomed for the sins of his ancestors and bemoans Lex finding the stones.
Meanwhile, guards have pulled Clark from the chamber. Once he regains his strength he quickly knocks them out. He frees Lex and Jason, but Lana gets away. The three guys go to the chamber Clark found and discover the true orientation of the map. Lana (still being controlled by Isabelle) finds the stone. Clark finds her and the two do battle. After a fierce blow the two are thrown apart. When they get up, Lana is again Lana and Jason is by her side. Lex comes out and asks who has the stone. No one claims to have it.
Back at the Talon, Jason tries to apologize to Lana for lying to her. When she rebuffs his attempts, he lays out the stone from China. He picked it up after Lana and Clark were knocked out. Lana is ecstatic. Clark receives a final e-mail from Dr. Swann. He advised his secretary to give Clark the one stone he found, but now Clark can't get a hold of her and no one seems to know where/who she is.
