Clark looses his sight and his hearing over compensates. Pete's life is in jeopardy. Chloe confronts Lionel about digging up information on Clark.
What's up with Clark: Clark is in a jewelry store looking to buy something for his mom's birthday. The owner shows him earrings with kryptonite in them, as Clark backs away, two burglars plan to rob the store. A high school aged boy named Nathan comes in first, he blends in with the crowd and then begins to emit a piercing sound from his throat that doubles over everyone in the store and shatters the glass. When his partner, Masterson, comes in and starts getting the jewels, Clark shoot his heat vision, which strikes the kryptonite earrings, sending a flash of light around the room. Nathan stops his screeching and leaves the store, the store owner pulls a shotgun on Masterson. Lana comes rushing in and finds Clark, who can no longer see.
Clark and his parents decide the best thing to do is wait and see if his condition improves. In the meantime, Clark decides he'll learn to live with his disability. While at school, Clark discovers he has super sensitive hearing and manages to catch Chloe's cell phone conversation with Lionel Luthor from across school. Clark heads back to the farm to try and get his new power under control. With the help of his parents, Clark learns to focus his hearing.
What's up with Chloe: Lionel calls Chloe at school and asks her for more information on Clark. Chloe denies having anymore information, saying she's given him everything she has. He demands she get more. When Chloe goes to see Clark at the farm, he confronts her about giving info to Lionel. She tells him Lionel caught her in a moment of weakness and she's only trying to help Clark now. Clark doesn't buy it and she runs off near tears.
What's up with Lana: After Clark looses his sight, Lana asks him what she can do to help. Clark tells her he doesn't need it and she walks off upset. When she goes to see Lex about her medical bill, Lex has generously paid it off, he tells her he's sorry he wasn't there for her during her rehab. She tells him about her and Clark's problems, he tells her Clark's just stubborn and hurt. Then, he asks about Adam, and Lana tells him the Adam has indeed left a lasting impression on her.
What's up with Pete: Pete's helping Clark adjust to life without sight. He also tells him, his mom is prosecuting Masterson and that she's not going to go easy on him. Later, Pete finds Clark walking on a country road near the farm. While the two are talking, Nathan pulls up in a tow truck and tells Pete to get in the truck. Before he has time to say no, Nathan produces the same noise from the jewelry store and drags Pete off while Clark is debilitated. Nathan soon calls in his ransom demand -- release Masterson, or Pete dies.
What's up with Lex: Lex is trying to get his life back on line. Clark warns him about Lionel, saying that Lionel is only giving him a token position in order to keep him out of the way, something Clark overheard Lionel tell Chloe on the phone. Lex is determined to prove himself and confronts Lionel, telling him he shouldn't make the mistake of underestimating him.
How it ends: Clark talks with Lana in town. He tells her he misses her and doesn't want to be alone anymore. Lana tells him he's not alone and they clasp hands. Just then, Clark hears the clanking of the tow truck that took Pete. He follows it to the junkyard, where Nathan is holding Pete. He hears Pete screaming and runs in right after Nathan knocks Pete out. Nathan sneaks up behind Clark and attacks him with a welding torch, burning Clarks eyes. The heat from the torch helps Clarks eyes, and he can see again. Thou, his sight is blurry and he still doesn't have his heat vision or x-ray vision back. Clark's determined to find Pete, but before he can continue his search, his parents take him to town and make him get a pair of glasses.
Meanwhile, Chloe goes to see Lionel in Metropolis. He confronts her about positioning Lex against him, when it was really Clark who told Lex about Lionel's intent. She denies it and threatens to expose Lionel's fascination with Clark. He tells her to be careful, but she says she'll be anything she wants, and as she walks out she tells him she no longer works for him.
Clark goes to the courtroom and overhears Masterson talking to Nathan on the phone. Nathan says he'll kill Pete after the judge lets Masterson go. Clark hurries to the junkyard and finds Nathan who attacks him, but this time, his piercing noise destabilizes some stacked cars and Nathan is crushed. Clark gets to Pete just before he's crushed in a trash compactor. The next day at the Talon, Chloe tells Clark and Pete that she's lost her Daily Planet column and that her dad was fired from Luthorcorp. Clark confronts Lex, saying it's unfair, but Lex tells him he should be happy, because he was able to keep Clark out of the mess. Later at the farm, Lana tells Clark she met someone at the hospital and she's not sure how she feels about him. Clark tells her she must already know if she's telling him. She agrees but says that she still wants to be friends. Clark thanks her for being honest, and as she drives away, he can hear her crying.
