OPEN LETTER FROM AUTHOR WRIGHT

This December entry of "What's New" will be the last one. Our website will remain on line for a while, but it is going inactive. My original objective in writing SMARTrans was two-fold. The first and most important task was to derail the CIFGA monorail dream. This goal has become a reality with the resounding defeat of their $50 million ballot initiative in November. It is difficult to imagine any way the monorail boosters can recover from such a significant setback. And SMARTrans played a very important role in that rejection.

The second objective was to generate serious official interest in what I believe to be the best solution for I-70's chronic congestion, namely a meter-gauge, Swiss-type mountain railway. Despite the overwhelming logic favoring such an approach (lowest cost, least environmental impact) I am sorry to say that interest has not happened. The reasons are many, including the blindness of the CIFGA, the highway orientation of the Colorado Department of Transportation and the almost continual ownership problems of the Swiss companies with potentially the greatest interest in the project.

The SMARTrans concept may at some future date resurface as Colorado's best choice. In the meantime, books will continue to be available through bookstores, Amazon.com and this website from JeannieMay Enterprises. I thank all of you for your support and interest. It has been a pleasure working on this project and meeting so many exciting and interesting folks.

Sincerely,

Edward Stewart Wright
