APRIL 2001

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is conducting a key Programmatic Environmental Impact Study (PEIS) to determine the future of the I-70 Mountain Corridor. My suggestion for an affordable and sensible meter-gauge railway solution to the crises is in danger of being dropped from the PEIS at the preliminary stage. Since this situation is highly political and subject to the will of the citizens, your support voiced at this time is critical.

This beautiful Stadler GTW 4/8 is in danger of being dropped from the PEIS. It is capable of
running up to 90 mph and can climb a 7% grade at 70 mph.

Click here to read a copy of my extensive letter to the study leaders regarding the current situation.

If you agree that the SMARTrans concept is worthy of further consideration, please e-mail the contractor,
J. F. Sato, at I-70peis@fsato.com. Your message should emphasize the low cost and environmentally sound characteristics of the meter-gauge railway.

Thanks for your support!

Edward Stewart Wright
