NEW MEMBER

We have a new member joining the site this week. Please welcome Florent Lecoanet from France who is entering the PAL World Rankings at #86 and also #30 in France. His overall standard is Elite E.

PR UPDATES

A fierce battle this week between two karters high up on NTSC rankings. Joe Bernier continues hitting some crazy PRs discovering more potential to take his times down further. He passed Simon Laflamme securing a #5 position on NTSC then we had a suprise from Oliver Segarra Gonzalez, SMK champion of Brazil who returned with a few fast PRs and two great WRs taken back from Bernier on CI2 with a barrier broken to 1'04"93 and 0'12"63! Oliver has cut has SR Score down to remain at 4th place on NTSC, just ahead of Bernier. We also had a couple of PRs from Aaron Miarka, some good cuts from Craig Lubbers as his PRs take him to Legend D overall standard, #30 on NTSC and #10 in U.S.A, and also some first improvements from Kristopher Lamp that have brought him up to Semi-Pro E and #112 on NTSC. In Japan, Ha Nyan is starting to make his way closer to Toshi Miura as his latest PRs have cut a lot more points for him. He has reached -3 SR Score now and is #16 on NTSC! Robin Usher has been picking up an even faster pace now with a long list of PRs that have landed him on Pro A overall standard and #97 on NTSC! He will definitely be well into the Masters next update with further PRs. In Canada, Haroon Shakeel Subhani has driven 7 new PRs including some solid DP3 times and has reached -8 SR. Sadly he reported that his controller is broken, and is looking to purchase a new one as soon as possible so he can resume karting. NTSC Champion, Chris Balch hit two PRs making it to -14 SR score.

On PAL version, in the Netherlands, Gerard Roodhorst hit two MC4 PRs. In France, Matthias Boucher took a few points down also with a few PRs. Pierre L'Hoëst made a small cut on CI1 5-lap. In the U.K, Kyle Clayton set some new PRs, climbing to Pro A overall standard, #117 in the World on PAL and #25 in the U.K. Chris Clark took the lead in the battle against Marius this week with some great work on VL1! His times have also helped him pass many British karters, placing him at #5 in the U.K! His World Ranking is now also #48. Steven Cotton set 7 PRs and is now very close to reaching Elite B.

FAIRFIELD HALLS EVENT FOR LONDON-PARIS CONTEST

On Saturday, I (Sami Çetin), Tom Gaffikin and Matthew McCarthy headed to Fairfield Halls in Croydon, South London to see the event being held where people were able to sign up for the competition between London and Paris that will take place next year. It was a great day, we were able to meet Walter Day from Twin Galaxies and as some of you may have read from their site, Billy Mitchell was present and we met him too. I discussed matters regarding sending an update of our records on our site to Twin Galaxies as I liaised with Walter on this over 5 years ago. Walter stated that he will be in contact with us with the relevant people working at Twin Galaxies so they may be able to get some of our top records into their database. This will hopefully be transferred into their later World Records book for various video games.

One of the best things about the day was a whole big room dedicated to retro-gaming where they had literally every old gaming system you could name, even stuff you've never heard of! There were a few Super Nes's around, plugged into TVs so people could play. A lot of stuff was in sale for cheap prices, so we decided to make the most of it and buy some spare SNES's and PAL SMK controllers incase of emergency. I also purchased a spare copy of SMK that we will use when we meet up to kart. It was an absolute bargain! Later, we decided to try and look around for anyone interested in SMK to do a bit of recruiting. As the whole event was for such a great number of games, not many people stopped by the TV with SMK plugged in but they still talked of how great the game was and some saying it was always their favourite of the Mario Kart series. We did however speak to and kart with a few people who have played SMK or still own a copy; we gave them the link to the site and asked them to join if they are interested so we are hoping for a few new members in due course.

For the rest of the afternoon, myself and Matt sat down on a large TV and played GP on 100cc and 150cc all the way through. A few spectators watched a bit as they walked past, but by this time people had started to leave. We did a few Time Trial runs and i did a quick demo of a 1'01" MC1 time to show a few people how it is done. At the end we said bye to Walter and he handed me a memento poster for the event which i got signed from him which was cool. All in all a great day, i only wish i bought some more SNES games now.. I hope that events like this can happen more often!

CLIAN POLIUS

I have tried to contact Clian Polius a while ago about verifying a few of his times, however he has not contacted us back yet. As a result his profile has been removed from the NTSC rankings until we hear from him. I have kept a copy of the profile so the times will be re-instated quickly once this issue has been resolved. If you read this Clian, please contact us on supermariokart@yahoogroups.com so we can discuss the courses where there are a few errors on your times.

NEW MEMBERS

We have a few great new karters joining the site this week!

Firstly from France, many of you have heard of Label Geoffrey who has played PAL version, mainly focusing on the WR for Rainbow Road. He has been battling Karel for a while and is currently a few milliseconds behind the PAL WR there for both 5-lap and 1-lap! He has a few other great times also, many courses he has driven some quick times to enter the rankings. He definitely has some crazy potential so look out for his improvements in future! Label has joined the PAL World Rankings at #60 and #26 in France with an overall standard of King F.

Our second new member is from Japan to NTSC version. Please welcome Hero Nake who has driven a fast set of records on joining the site. He enters the NTSC World Rankings at #73 in the World and #7 in Japan with an overall standard of King G. We look forward to seeing him improve his records!

Simon Laflamme regained his 5th place with some great VL2 PRs and Jonathan Girard made a small cut on KB1 lap. In U.S.A, Craig Lubbers was on fire with big PRs! He hit some good long boost times and made many other good cuts that dropped his SR down to 0 exactly putting him at GOD standard overall, #20 in the World on NTSC and #4 in U.S.A! Kristopher Lamp also made a massive amount of improvements which helped him climb to Pro G overall standard and #107 on NTSC. In Japan, Robin Usher has brought all of his times to the Masters with some big cuts off many of his records. He is well on the way to reaching the Elites, he may make it within the next week or two at the pace he is going!     On PAL version, Steven Cotton from the U.K drove 9 PRs and made it to Elite B overall standard. In France, Matthias Boucher hit a nice sub 10 second lap PR on VL2 lap. MESSAGE FROM SIMON LAFLAMME

Simon Laflamme posted this week on the message board with a topic titled "Looking forward to changes". This details some of the changes that have been needed that have been discussed over the years for both Players' Site and Non-NBT sites. Just asking if you could all have a look at this post on the message board and add your comments and thoughts to this idea if you have any.

Simon also stated that there is a change in the Non-NBT site that he wanted to inform everyone about. This is that from next week onwards, players will be able to submit records to the Top 100s even if they do not have all of their times. However, these players will still not be placed on the Players' List. Please note that this does not apply to this site, but to the Non-NBT site only. Players on this site still have to join fully with all 40/40 PRs submitted. Players' can still e-mail their times to both sites via the yahoogroups e-mail address, but please specify if a time is Non-NBT only or uses some NBT driving.

NEW MEMBER

We have a new member to the site this week. As mentioned last week at the Fairfield Halls gaming event, Sami Çetin and Mathew McCarthy did some recruiting. This week we have received a full set of times from Tony Wicker from the U.K. Tony has sent us all of his PAL times and joins the PAL World Rankings at #118 with a Pro A overall standard. There was a lot of activity from Japan, with our new member from last week, Hero Nake with a long list of PRs! He has cut a lot of time off and has a lot of potential. He should be able to reach the Legends soon. Hero Nake has climbed to #51 in the World on NTSC and #5 in Japan. Ha Nyan has also been attacking his times very well this week. He is cutting his SR Score down well with some NBT driving and has reached -4 SR Score and #15 in the World on NTSC. Toshi Miura is not far ahead now to see a battle for #2 in Japan. In Canada, Haroon Shakeel Subhani suprised us with an early return from his little break and several new PRs that are getting stronger with NBT driving. He has reached -10 SR Score now and #8 in the World on NTSC.

In the U.K, Leyla Hasso (niece of Sami Çetin, daughter of Karim and Ayla Hasso and youngest karter on the site) visited Sami demanding to make a return to SMK after months of inactivity. In a few hours one evening she hit 24 PRs and has climbed to #157 in the World on PAL. In France, Antoine Olivier hit 6 PRs and is picking up the pace with the faster route on KB1 as he hits a pair of GOD times there. He has cut some of his SR Score down and should reach Legend B soon.
